[Feature request] Make MX Keys easy switch the mouse too

Eduardo Jr9842 Unfortunately this is not it :/
What I did is a script which tells the Logitech Unifying Receiver to send a command to both devices (mouse and keyboard). And this script is "installed" on both computers. When this script is executed on computer 1 it's telling the receiver "switch mouse and keyboard to computer 2". And vice-versa.

The desired solution requires different model of communication. For example: whenever you press computer switch on the keyboard, the receiver needs to react on that and notify mouse to change computer as well. It's way beyond my knowledge.

But ye, Logitech fkup, and they didn't implement it.

    Hey all,

It is not possible to use one Easy-Switch button to at the same time change both your mouse and keyboard to a different computer/device.

We do understand that this is a feature that a lot of customers would like. If you are switching between Apple macOS and/or Microsoft Windows computers, we offer Flow. Flow allows you to control multiple computers with a Flow-enabled mouse. Flow automatically switches between computers by moving your cursor to the edge of the screen, and the keyboard follows.

In other cases where Flow is not applicable, one Easy-Switch button for both mouse and keyboard might look like a simple answer. However, we cannot guarantee this solution at the moment, as it is not easy to implement.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for reaching out.

We appreciate the feedback and understand the importance of this feature working between computers and phones/tablets. However, due to limitations in iOS and Android apps, implementing this feature is not currently feasible. Thank you for your understanding, and we will keep this feature in mind for the future.

In case you need any additional support, please write back to us.

Siddharth, thank you for breaking the silence.

Please have a talk with the Logitech marketing department about the long term downsides of deceptive marketing.

    Siddharth,

    1. How shall I use flow if I use the same monitor for both computers?

    2. "as it is not easy to implement" - if it would have been easy then all keyboards and mousses on the market would offer it of one tenth of the price you request. I od not understand this argument.

And yes, please change your marketing for these products.

    Cheers,

    Łukasz

Unfortunately Flow does not work even if the two computers are on the same physical network, when one of them is a company PC that connects through VPN.

And then of cause when you only have one monitor (which is probably the most used scenario when you need this functionality)...

I don't care if it does not work on IOS or Android. Try to make it work on Windows at least and go from there. Put it into Options+ beta then you don't have to support everything at once. Just give us this essential very needed functionality - which I thought was already there when I bought my MX keys and Master 3 mouse.

That said the MX keys are the best keyboard I have had in 25 years - and I've had a lot...

    Honestly...
It's been proven a couple of times already that it's possible...

At least let us remap the fast switch button on the Master 3...

277 comments deep! I've been on this email chain for over six months now with no resolution in sight. What do we need to do to get a resolution? do we all need to spam the Logitech twitter account till we get noticed? pool our money together to buy Logitech shares and then elect ourselves to the board and make this issue the companies purpose? I'm out of ideas and patience. This thread is the final resting place for the hopes and dreams of MX customers. It seems this will continue until the product gets discontinued and they will say buy the new product that has that feature.

As far as I can see this needs a receiver (or possibly keyboard) firmware update to work properly for all cases.  Anything that relies on executing some code on a device (either Logitech Flow or Options or a script / 3rd party program such as hidapitester or Solaar) won't work for cases where people can't run their own solutions (e.g. a work computer or another OS). I'm not sure whether it also works where the device which currently has 'focus' is switched off because you can't use the mouse on the second device because you haven't switched to it and it would be clumsy to have to run a script from the keyboard even if you can switch to the keyboard before logging in.  My use-case is two PCs one of which is for work and I can't install or run anything third party on it. It works today (but only for the mouse by flipping it) as I set up the receiver for the work computer via a third PC.

I would have thought it should work like this (assuming 2 receviers for simplicity): Assume we can install Logitech Options on one PC (called Home) for setup and configuration and (firmware) updates and we're already set up with two receivers that we can switch using the buttons between Home (receiver1) and a second PC we can't install anything on (called Work with receiver2).

    The Problem:
When I press Easy-Switch-1 the keyboard connects to Home via recevier1 and when I press Easy-Switch-2 it connects to Work via receiver2 but it only does this for the keyboard. I presume the keyboard must do this by talking to both receviers when I press an Easy-Switch. So if I press Easy-Switch-2 the keyboard should say recevier1 disconnect, receiver2 connect (otherwise I'd be typing on both). It must do this without any Logitech software installed because receiver2 on Work is working via the button presses only.

    The Solution:
Today I have to press Klumsy-Switch on the bottom of my mouse to cycle to receiver 1 or 2. So the receivers clearly know about the mouse as well. What we all want to happen is when receiver1 gets a disconnect message for the keyboard, it should ALSO disconnect the mouse. When receiver2 gets a connect message for the keyboard it should ALSO connect the mouse. Then it seems to me it would all work. Perhaps Options is needed as a one-off to tell the receivers to do this - it could provide a link-mouse-to-keyboard option.

    Possible Complexity:
The only complexity I can see is if today the receivers don't remeber the mouse details when they're not connected (they must when connected of course). If that was the case when a receiver gets a 'connect keyboard' message it might not know the mouse it had to connect to - hence my suggestion there might be a firmware update needed for the receivers so it could remember (and perhaps be told by Options as a one-off). If updating the receivers isn't possible then maybe the keyboard could be updated to impersonate the mouse - so pressing Easy-Switch-2 sends disconnect keyboard and disconnet mouse to receiver1 and connect keyboard and connect mouse to Easy-Switch-2. Again Options could be used to say link-mouse-to-keyboard as a one-off to tell the keyboard it needs to send both messages.

So the only problem that there seems to be is if it's not possible to do firmware updates on either the keyboard or the receivers. In that worst-case scenario Logitech could provide updated receivers only (and ideally free updated receivers to all the contributors to this forum of course!...)

Bryan Sturdy Yes! This is the implementation I was also thinking about.
Regarding firmware upgrade, it does look possible via the current Logitech Unifying Software:

    -> Open Logitech Unifying Software

    -> Click "Advanced..."

There you have the information for the Unifying Receiver connected to the PC and the devices paired to it, together with the FW version of each device and a button to "Update FIrmware":

Vlad Radoiu - thanks!  I was being lazy - I should have check the Logitech Unifying software (I'm on a different computer) - so it seems updating the receivers is an option.  Siddharth - I think everyone on this forum would be grateful if you could ask someone from Logitech's technical team to explain why it's so difficult to implement and could not be done in the way I suggest a couple of posts ago.  It seems that all the pieces of the puzzle are there - but if there is a more complex reason at least that would explain if not mitigate the inaction.  I thought I might have misread the marketing for these items (which as others have commented, are physically great) but with so many comments on this thread it seems the misunderstanding is very common.

Adrian Gabriel Alexandrescu here you have:

    C:\Users\jan\bin\hidapitester.exe --vidpid 046D:C52B --usage 1 --usagePage 0xFF00 --open --length 7 --send-output "0x10,0x01,0x09,0x11,0x00,0x00,0x00"
    C:\Users\jan\bin\hidapitester.exe --vidpid 046D:C52B --usage 1 --usagePage 0xFF00 --open --length 7 --send-output "0x10,0x02,0x0a,0x1d,0x00,0x00,0x00"

it's for Master 3 and MX Keys.
    hidapitester - https://github.com/todbot/hidapitester/releases

In case it's not working for you, please read following:
    https://github.com/Logitech/logi_craft_sdk/issues/28
you should play with the last parameter (i.e. "0x10,0x01,0x09,0x11,0x00,0x00,0x00").
In my case the problem was with second byte ("0x10,THIS,0x09,0x11,0x00,0x00,0x00") - I believe it's index of device registered under Logitech Unifying Receiver.

Whenever it's working for you, you can save it as a bat file, and then create EXE app out of it. Then you can bind it to any mouse button using Logitech Option.

Thank you for linking the scripts above! I was able to get it working and can now switch seamlessly between my systems.

As you mentioned, there was some trial and error, but was able to figure it out by just testing out different numbers with the second byte. In the end, this is what worked for me

    MX Master 3 Mouse - 1 to 2
    hidapitester.exe --vidpid 046D:C52B --usage 1 --usagePage 0xFF00 --open --length 7 --send-output "0x10,0x01,0x0a,0x11,0x01,0x00,0x00"
    MX Keyboard - 1 to 2
    hidapitester.exe --vidpid 046D:C52B --usage 1 --usagePage 0xFF00 --open --length 7 --send-output "0x10,0x03,0x09,0x11,0x01,0x00,0x00"

    MX Keyboard - 2 to 1
    hidapitester.exe --vidpid 046D:C52B --usage 1 --usagePage 0xFF00 --open --length 7 --send-output "0x10,0x03,0x09,0x11,0x00,0x00,0x00"
    MX Master 3 Mouse - 2 to 1
    hidapitester.exe --vidpid 046D:C52B --usage 1 --usagePage 0xFF00 --open --length 7 --send-output "0x10,0x02,0x0a,0x11,0x00,0x00,0x00"

@Siddharth, your reply just showed how far the false marketing of this line of products have gone.

They are great products themselves but oversold on a feature that they did not have.

I wonder if there is a class action on the horizon, seeing how Logitech has seemingly no intention to deliver on it’s marketing promises.

Thank you so much Jan Folfas and Daniel Chiang ,

After some trials I managed to make switch from Device1 to Device2.

But reverse (From Bluetooth Device2  to Device 1) ,  I get this error :

I put another Logitech Receiver into second computer and and I got rid of the error:

..  I tried with many variations of second parameter , but .. without success. I think the second dongle of second PC doesn't communicate with the keyboard and mouse.

Is it something I do wrong or I missed something ?

    Hi all,

Adrian Gabriel Alexandrescu are you able to command your Bluetooth MXs via hidapitester.exe ?

When listing devices with hidapitester.exe I don't see any of my Bluetooth devices (I don't use Logitech unifying receiver, only BT).

Anyone has been able to command Logitech MXs on Bluetooth with both PC1 and PC 2 under Win10 ?

I'm currently able to switch my display input via script but nothing succeeds with Logitech MXs devices.

@ Logitech, Please implement this feature at least for Windows. I'm sure that triggering some kind of 'easy switch' with a key is something you can do with few efforts.

    Thanks All.

I too would really like the ability to control device switching via MX Keys!  It would be a game-changer!!

This would be a great feature to have.  As per many others I had too purchased both MX Keyboard and Mouse to use with my work and personal laptops at home,  and while the flow work great for my home laptops i also need to be able to switch with ease to the work laptop.

Surely there can be a way for the easy switch function on the keyboard to work interact better with the unifying receiver and provide the ability to move mouse over too as a basic functionality.  Not looking for full flow abilities of copying files etc.  but basic switch for mouse and keyboard together.

What do you mean not easy to implement????? I saw a programmer decode the signals which mx keyboard send and mx master and then configure it mx master to follow the keyboard. From what I understand all the tools are there you just need to program the rules. Why dont you understand that this is the workflow for a lot a lot of people who work from home and they have a work pc connected through vpn and their home laptop/pc and they cannot use flow.  I saw your new logitech app and it is trash it doesnt bring anything only a revamp interface. My question is what where you developing all this time? Flow is not a solution for a lot of people you should have figured by this time....

Up until now I have always purchased logitech equipment (logitech mx master 2s, master 3, mk keys, webcam but this will stop now. Out of frustration I will never buy any logitech products, not becuase they are bad but because of an expensive price tag and no feedback at all. I guess you could have at least sold 2 recieveres separatly for this purpose and add a firmware update for mx keys but you just dont care.

But that's scamming customers. The buttons on the keyboard also show the drawing of multiple devices. But how can you not think of such a thing? An unforgivable lack, for this reason I bought Mx Keys and Mx Master 3 ... you also sell them together! Logitech disappointed me, luckily I still have time to return both! Greetings

Please consider this feature a priority. I upgraded to a Master 3 mouse with the MX Keys Mini because I assumed this feature would be included. I now have to return the products due to this function missing. Include it and I will buy.

    I need this feature too!

I bought this combo (MX Keys + MX Master 3) thinking that this was the normal functionality! Bad surprise!

If its too complicated to make it work on all operating systems and all kinds of connections, then make it only for Windows when using two/three USB Logitech Unifying Receivers.

When I bought the MX Keys/MX Master 3 combo I did of course expect, switching the computer on the keyboard would switch the mouse as well. All the product "info", the videos, the whole marketing stuff and advertising suggest exactly that. After I noticed, it doesn't work as I'd expected, I checked all that marketing bloatware again and indeed, is was never really mentioned. Clever: let the customer think what everybody would expect but never really promise. As some other people here already posted, that's nothing but scamming customers.
I bought Logitech products for years and I learned the lesson: good price/feature ratio for the hardware, but always crappy software which will never really been bug fixed nor updated properly. When I bought the MX stuff, I*d not even think of using the software and I'm pretty sure, this feature request will never ever appear. That's Logitech !

As a product manager, it is difficult to believe that the Logitech team did not consider the use case of being able to switch between computers via the MX Keys buttons alone.  While Flow functionality is a neat, but mostly a worthless trick, I have a difficult time believing that the Logitech team considered the Flow feature a viable replacement for an easy switch between computers.  Especially, since the obvious use case is to mirror KVM switch functionality.  I challenge the smart people at Logitech to make this happen.  In the meantime, Logitech should put an obvious disclaimer on the website and on product packaging. Additionally, Logitech should cease selling these two products together or in a bundle.
