What is PartyUp?
The Ultimate Ears MINIROLL uses Auracast™ to connect to other MINIROLLs for a bigger sound.
NOTE: MINIROLL can only PartyUp with other MINIROLLs.
What makes MINIROLL’s PartyUp feature so social and convenient is that when your MINIROLL is in PartyUp mode, if it is connected to a device and playing audio, it will automatically share this audio stream with nearby MINIROLLs also in PartyUp mode for a louder sound.
For privacy concerns, if you do not wish to share your audio with other nearby MINIROLLs, it is recommended that you do not turn on PartyUp mode unless you are actively trying to PartyUp with other MINIROLLs.
How can I use the PartyUp feature?
To PartyUp, power on your MINIROLL and pair it to your phone via Bluetooth. Long-press the Play/Pause button on your speaker for three seconds to activate PartyUp. You will hear a tone indicating your MINIROLL is searching for a connection. This MINIROLL, which is connected to your phone, is the primary MINIROLL in a Party.
To connect additional MINIROLLs to the primary MINIROLL, bring each MINIROLL within 10 meters (32 ft) of the primary MINIROLL and power them on. Long-press the Play/Pause button for three seconds to put them in PartyUp mode. They will scan for nearby primary MINIROLLs to connect to as a secondary MINIROLL. You do not need to connect secondary MINIROLLs to your phone.
Once the secondary MINIROLLs have successfully entered PartyUp with the primary MINIROLL, the LED in the power button will breathe steadily. You can identify the primary MINIROLL by its LED’s double-blink pattern, as opposed to the secondary MINIROLLs’ steady breathing. Your music will now be played through all the speakers in the Party.
Long-press the Play/Pause button again on your MINIROLL to leave PartyUp mode. If you power off your speaker, it will also exit PartyUp mode. Please note that if a primary MINIROLL exits PartyUp, all secondary MINIROLLs connected to it will stop playing music as well. If a secondary MINIROLL exits PartyUp, the other MINIROLLs in the Party remain unaffected.
Can I PartyUp my MINIROLL with other Auracast-certified devices?
For the best performance, your MINIROLL is designed to PartyUp only with other Ultimate Ears MINIROLLs. The PartyUp feature is not used to connect to Auracast-certified devices.
How many MINIROLLs can I PartyUp at once and what is the maximum distance between them?
You can PartyUp an unlimited number of MINIROLLs with each other. However, to join a Party, all MINIROLLs must be within 10 meters (32 ft) of the MINIROLL that’s Bluetooth connected to your device.
If there are multiple MINIROLLs nearby that are in PartyUp mode, it is recommended that you bring your MINIROLL within three meters of the primary MINIROLL you want to connect to in order to ensure you join the correct Party.
Once connected, you can bring your MINIROLLs up to 10 meters (32 ft) from the source MINIROLL in an open area and still remain in the Party. Actual distance may vary depending on the level of wireless signal interference in the environment.
Why won’t my MINIROLL get any louder during PartyUp?
If you hear this warning tone when you press the volume up button, and you find that your MINIROLL isn’t getting any louder, it means your secondary MINIROLL is already at the maximum volume set by the primary MINIROLL it’s connected to.
When your MINIROLLs are in PartyUp, the volume of the secondary MINIROLLs are constrained by the maximum volume of the primary MINIROLL. For example, if your primary MINIROLL, which is connected to your device, is at 70% volume, your secondary MINIROLLs, which are connected to your primary MINIROLL, can only go up to 70% volume.
What happens when there are multiple PartyUp music sources playing near me simultaneously?
For the best performance, it is recommended that you bring your secondary MINIROLL closer to the primary MINIROLL whose Party you want to join when there are multiple PartyUp sources nearby. You should be within three meters (16 feet) of the primary MINIROLL at the time of PartyUp for the best connection.
If you want a secondary MINIROLL to switch to a different Party, turn off and restart PartyUp mode on the secondary speaker and bring it closer to the primary MINIROLL whose Party you wish to join.
Why did my MINIROLL switch to a different PartyUp party?
The party never stops with MINIROLL’s PartyUp feature. When a primary MINIROLL stops playing music while in PartyUp mode, it automatically switches to receiving mode after 12 seconds of laying idle and begins scanning for nearby primary MINIROLLs to PartyUp with.
For example, picture two primary MINIROLLs side by side, Bluetooth connected to device A and device B respectively, and each playing music with PartyUp activated. If music is paused on speaker A, after 12 seconds it will automatically begin scanning for other primary MINIROLLs whose Party it can join. Upon finding speaker B, speaker A will join speaker B’s Party as a secondary MINIROLL and begin playing device B’s music. This is possible because the two speakers are nearby and both in PartyUp mode.
However, because speaker A is still connected to device A via Bluetooth, if you unpause the music stream from device A, speaker A will leave speaker B’s Party and begin playing the music from device A. Speaker B will continue playing music from device B unless paused.
What makes MINIROLL’s PartyUp feature so social and convenient is that when your MINIROLL is in PartyUp mode, if it is connected to a device and playing audio, it will automatically share this audio stream with nearby MINIROLLs also in PartyUp mode for a louder sound. If you do not wish to share your audio with other nearby MINIROLLs that do not belong to you, it is recommended that you do not turn on PartyUp mode unless you are actively trying to PartyUp with other MINIROLLs.
