A legacy product is one that is no longer under development. Most Saitek legacy products were designed over 5 years ago for Windows XP or Vista. As a result, there may be some compatibility issues with newer operating systems (such as Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10) and the latest computer hardware. For certain products, Logitech is unable to create new drivers because the firmware is incompatible with the newest motherboard USB chipsets.
All Saitek devices will enumerate with Microsoft’s Human Interface Device (HID) INF drivers that are preloaded with Windows. They do not require a special Saitek driver to be detected and to work. Microsoft’s HID drivers are automatically installed when you connect a new controller, mouse, or keyboard to your computer.
If you are unable to use a legacy product on a recent version of Windows, do the following:
Try different USB ports
Some legacy issues are due to the use of a USB 3.0 port. Disconnect your USB cable from the computer and connect the USB cable straight into a different USB 2.0 port on your computer’s motherboard. If you do use a USB 3.0 port, make sure you have the latest USB and chipset drivers for your motherboard.
NOTE: Non-powered USB hubs (without an external power supply), can cause connected devices to malfunction if the load on the HUB exceeds a certain limit (500mA for USB 2.0 and 900mA for USB3+). Don't connect multiple devices to a non-powered HUB as it could cause the total load to exceed this limit.
NOTE: If you use powered HUBs, they also may have a maximum load which can be exceeded with multiple devices. If you encounter power issues with your legacy device, refer to your USB HUB documentation.
Update your motherboard’s USB and chipset drivers
Before you update, make sure you know the name of the manufacturer and model number. Here’s how you can find those details on Windows 7-10:
Re-install HID drivers
If your device is not working correctly or errors appear in the Devices and Printers Window (or in Device Manager), then the Windows HID drivers may not be installed correctly. The steps below show you how to spot these errors:

Update your motherboard’s USB and chipset drivers
Before you update, make sure you know the name of the manufacturer and model number. Here’s how you can find those details on Windows 7-10:
- Press and hold the Windows key, then press R. In the Run box, type msinfo32, and then click OK or press Enter.
- In the System Summary tab:
- Your motherboard’s manufacturer is listed next to System Manufacturer
- Your motherboard’s model number is listed next to System Model
- Go to the support or service section of your motherboard manufacturer’s website.
- Navigate to the corresponding product page.
- Locate the download section on the product page.
- Download the latest chipset and USB drivers for your version of Windows and its bit rating. If you need help, see the Microsoft article How to determine whether a computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of Windows.
- Install both driver files.
NOTE: Steps 1-3 might vary on a manufacturer to manufacturer basis.
Re-install HID drivers
If your device is not working correctly or errors appear in the Devices and Printers Window (or in Device Manager), then the Windows HID drivers may not be installed correctly. The steps below show you how to spot these errors:
- Open Device Manager. Press and hold the Windows key, then press R. In Run box, type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK or press Enter.
- Click on the arrow next to Human Interface Devices to expand the section. NOTE: Any device that is improperly functioning will have a yellow or red bang (!) next to its entry.
- Uninstall every instance of your device from Device Manager in all sections. To uninstall the device, right-click the corresponding entry and select Uninstall. In the Device Uninstall window, click OK.
- Unplug the device and then plug it back in.
- If you only see HID-compliant game controller and USB Input Device entries, then restart the computer. If you still see yellow bangs (!) or your product is listed as an Unknown, Unrecognized or as a Saitek device, repeat steps 3 to 4. The image below shows the Windows HID drivers correctly installed.
- After restarting your computer, open Device Manager. If you only see HID-compliant game controller and USB Input Device entries, then you have successfully re-installed the HID drivers.
