If you are unable to use the pipe key on your keyboard with a Portuguese / Brazilian layout while in Mac OS X, you may need to change the layout functionality of the keyboard.

In order to change the layout functionality, please perform the following steps:
  1. On the keyboard, press and hold Fn + O to swap from PC layout to Mac layout.
  2. Following this step, press FN + U for three seconds. This will swap “ and ‘ with the | and / keys.
