This is normal behavior of the trackball.
The green battery light on your trackball will come on for a few seconds to indicate that the battery has enough charge for the device to function. Then, the light will go off again.
This happens when you power on your trackball and when you replace the batteries. The battery light will go out after a few seconds to conserve battery power.
