Hi!   Actually I keeped googling for the problem, and I guess I found it on Skype & Logitech forum. \r\nYou can have a look at these related TOPICS: \r\n1) Stuck at Testing Internet Connection 2) Unable to connect to the Internet when attempting to logging to 3) Network error both Wi Fi and wired 4) Solved: Logitech HD TV Cam - Skype Community[https://community.skype.com/t5/Skype-on-your-TV/Logitech-HD-TV-Cam/td-p/1999219]   Just to summarize it very quickly: Around October 2013 skype has changed samething on their webserver settings, causing a problem  in the Logitech cam: when the cam connects to internet it automatically checks if the Skype server is reachable, and it seems that it tries to ping to www.skype.com[http://www.skype.com] . \r\nActually, after the change made by Skype side, this url was not responding anymore, even if Skype properly is online. But the TV CAM doesn't receive any response from its ping and it declares "cannot connect to internet". \r\nLots of people complained on Logitech forum and in about 10 days Logitech produced 2 firmware updates, the last of them was aiming to fix also that issue:   "Logitech TV Cam HD firmware 1.6.214  Fixed issues Panasonic N1 TV displays video during a call but has no audio. Add check for internet connectivity via http post in addition to the already available ping to Skype.com. This feature lets TV Cam HD detect network availability on corporate networks that have disabled ping from their network. Should address the vast majority of corporate networks that prevent ping, but still allow internet connection from their network." So far, this is the last firmware version of the TV CAM since 2013. Now, if you bought the cam outside Logitech Shop Online (as I did, to save money), it has been probably resting in a storage for years before you bought it. This means that maybe your cam is not updated with the latest version of the firmware, and so we are still experiencing the problem. So I think that a firmware update to its latest version can fix this issue. \r\nBUT THERE IS A **bleep**ING LOOP IN THIS: if the cam doesn't go online, cannot download any firmware, and there is no way to download and update the firmware offline. So we have to find a **bleep**ing way to let think to the cam that internet is actually running, download the latest firmware version and then it should work properly.   I googled for a solution about that, and the only two fixes I found are these:   1)  Go through the free DNS list on http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/a/free-public-dns-servers.htm[http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/a/free-public-dns-servers.htm] and for each DNS server, try a ping to www.skype.com.[http://www.skype.com./]   On the Comodo Secure DNS - pings started working. (AT THAT TIME, NOT SEEMS WORKING ANYMORE)   C:\Users\(...)>ping www.skype.com[http://www.skype.com/] \r\n \r\nPinging www.skype.akadns.net[http://www.skype.akadns.net/] [157.56.198.10] with 32 bytes of data: \r\nReply from 157.56.198.10: bytes=32 time=383ms TTL=232 \r\nReply from 157.56.198.10: bytes=32 time=384ms TTL=232 \r\nReply from 157.56.198.10: bytes=32 time=384ms TTL=232 \r\nReply from 157.56.198.10: bytes=32 time=405ms TTL=232 \r\n \r\nPing statistics for 157.56.198.10: \r\n    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), \r\nApproximate round trip times in milli-seconds: \r\n    Minimum = 383ms, Maximum = 405ms, Average = 389ms \r\n  Then change the router settings to use those DNS settings ( 8.26.56.26 / 8.20.247.20 ) - and the camera start to work again. It should than perform a firmware update and after which it should again work with usual google DNS. \r\n \r\n2)  You can try temporarily adding one of the following  entries (with admin rights) into the hosts.ics file located at: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc (start notepad as admin open hosts.ics if file does not exist create one and save the following)   127.0.0.1 78.141.177.180 www.skype.com[http://www.skype.com/]   127.0.0.1  www.skype.com[http://www.skype.com/]   127.0.0.1 163-248.static.quiettouch.com   Now you have to share your wireless internet connection to the ethernet connection i followed these steps:   http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/using-internet-connection-sharing#1TC=windows-7[http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/using-internet-connection-sharing#1TC=windows-7]   Then connected the camera via ethernet to the laptop   Then i turn on the webcam and it should work. So that now it is possible to login into skype and upload the firmware.       I tried the DNS modification, but it didn't work. This weekend I am going to try the second solution, but it will be a little bit tricky cause I don't handle the cam directly, I need to speak to my brother which he is in Italy (with the cam) and I am living in Norway.   If the second fix is going to work, I will share it here. you can also try by yourself and give me a feedback. Thank you for posting anyway!

Problem Solved.   I confirm (as many others have done before myself) that the cam tries to ping to www.skype.com,[http://www.skype.com,] and since this URL seems to not be able to ping back so far, it says that the connection failes. The only solution is (in a way or another) connect the cam to a internet connection in which you are able to control the DNS and redirect the URL "www.skype.com"[http://www.skype.com"] to a pingable ping, no matter what that is (it's even fine to have 127.0.0.1 = ping yourself!). If you solve this, Voilà! The cam works. It passes the internet check and it just need to download and install the latest firmware available (so far 1.6.214). When the firmware is updated, then it will work.   Summarizing:   Find a way to connect the cam to a internet connection (wired or wireless) that you are able to control and redirect the ping to www.skype.com[http://www.skype.com] to a pingable address. It will work, 100% garanteed.   Cheers, and thanks to everybody for the help! Community is a great help!

I tried it with all three ping addresses you gave, all together and one by one. \r\nI am getting a new message saying 'testing internet conection' but after a minute or so I get the same message saying 'We are unable to connect to the Internet'.   I am using widows 10, and this was a better solution then the microsoft link you provided. I also cheacked it with another laptop so I am 100% sure it works.   I really hope we can resolve this soon. Thanks for your help.

Hei GuySion,    I can confirm you that I fixed that problem with the second solution.   If you have a laptop, you have to find a way to share your laptop connection. You have two options: 1) You can connect the laptop with LAN wire and share the connection with your wireless. For this first option, you can follow THIS VIDEOGUIDE[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2wdgqDs6N8] (with windows 10) 2) You can connect the laptop with wireless and share the connection through a LAN wire (Try THIS[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kInXd6TqbWA] video or similar).     Now comes the tricky part:   3) Connect the CAM to the laptop (with WIFI if you are in option 1, with wire in option 2) and try to connect. It will not work, but you have to do this test BEFORE. 4) Edit the host.ics file on your laptop. Follow THIS VIDEOGUIDE[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAOyoDx5h1Q]. Add at the end of the hosts.ics file these lines:   127.0.0.1  www.skype.com[http://www.skype.com/] 127.0.0.1 163-248.static.quiettouch.com   5) Now, try the connection test on the cam. It should work. It will go through the internet check, and ask for skype account. At the end, before unconnecting or other stuff, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU UPDATE THE FIRMWARE. Go in the settings and look for it. Update the cam (it will take a while and it will restart)... Than when the set up will be finished, you can connect the cam to your regular wifi. It will work, guaranteed.   Problem Solved.   If you want to be sure that the IP addresses are working, before doing everythin try to ping them from your laptop. You can use EVERY IP YOU LIKE, it is enough that it works. To ping an IP address, follow this VIDEOGUIDE[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nh8LQBMoC7I]   I hope you can fix the problem. In the case you don't, write here again or contact me on my FB page: https://www.facebook.com/marinelligiuseppe[https://www.facebook.com/marinelligiuseppe]   Ha det bra! Lykke til!

Hi, Thanks for the reply and help!   Unfortunatly those line you told me to add to the host are not getting any respons when I am cheacking the ping. I am adding a picture of the screen. I have to mention that other adresses are getting ping respons and I do have intenet conection working, and I can surf the net.   maybe the addresse only work from Italy? I don't understand how is it possible..   any other ideas?

Hei.   That's exactly why the cam doesn't work: it tries to ping "www.skype.com"[http://www.skype.com"] and, as you checked personally, they don't ping back. So the cam thinks that there is a problem in the internet connection, while it is not true, it is just that the ping it is trying is not running anymore.   To understand properly what does it mean to edit the hosts.ics file, and how it affects the "ping", take a look at this VIDEO[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6obijYbJt4&feature=youtu.be].   So, now you got it? What you have to do is to share your laptop connection with the cam (wired or wireless), then, when the cam is connected, follow the video. If the ping will work, than retry with the cam internet check: it will work: 100% guaranteed. You will than be able to download the latest firmware. After updating the cam, you will be able to connect it to any internet connection and it will work.   PS: It is not a geographic issue: i recoded the video on my norwegian laptop, sitting in my office in Trondheim. Just check that the hosts.ics file is correctly modified (you have to be administrator to do this). To be sure to open the hosts.ics file as administrator, follow this walktrough:   1) Click on start menu and in the search bar type "notepad". Thank OPEN IT AS ADMINISTRATOR. 2) INSIDE notepad window click on File - Open. Find the hosts.ics file, open it, modify it and save it.   PPS: Be aware that when you connect the cam to the computer, probably your hosts.ics file will be overwritten and your modification can be lost. So, be sure that the last thing you do before checking the connection with the cam is to edit the hosts.ics file. In this way you will be sure.

Problem SOLVED!   finally, after several days I now know what was the problem with your solution. It is important to remember that sharing your internet connection and Bridging your internet connection are two very different things!   This does not work (Bridge connection): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kInXd6TqbWA[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kInXd6TqbWA]   This DOES work (Sharing internet connection): http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/using-internet-connection-sharing#1TC=windows-7[http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/using-internet-connection-sharing#1TC=windows-7] \r\n   Thanks for your time, and I hope it will help the next person..

So I am much less tech savvy than anyone else.   Have the TV CAM HD hardwire connected for two years...has worked fine until today.  Just used it on May 7. Why can't logitech or skype 'answer' the ping??  They shouldn't expect old retired people to be able to do things that take lots of technical steps that use three letter abbreviations that get even more confusing if you try to google them to know what the three letter abbreviations mean....   If logitech really won't give a solution for this...then I would need someone to give primitive instructions.     This makes me really sad...I was looking forward to belated mothers day greetings and now I can't do it after I spent all that money on an expensive cam.  And I've spent all day today getting confused by what everyone is saying.   Very frustrated.   I don't know how I would connect it to my laptop instead....I wouldn't know how to direct it to ping something else.  I wouldn't know how to get my laptop to return to how it was.  It's just a bright turquoise annoying skype screen that doesn't give you any options to fix anything.   Maybe logitech will buy me something that works for a belated mothers day gift.

I can't agree more with you. It was working with the latets firmware update up until today. Today it stopped connecting. I don't know what is going on with Logitech or the firmwware. Logitech has to do something about it.

I also totally agree with you, karens1234. This product is teoretically made for people that are not very tecky, as my parents, my grandparents, etc... It should be something that everyone can connect to TV and use, very simple.   As side of this post on the forum, I have opened an assistance ticket with logitech. They answered me several days after I fixed the problem with THIS:   "Did you try to connect the HD TV CAM to another TV?"    When I replied with a long complaining email about their **bleep**ty assistance, they just replied me that "The product is out of production since 1 year, so it will not be supported anymore with new firmwares update". This is OBVIOUS, but the real **bleep** is that a good firmware is already available and you don't make it easily available to customers who already have this product, just bought it or since many years ago.   Furthermore, Skype has decided to stop the development of Skype app for Smart TVs. This means that in future the only way to use it will be through smartphones, tablets and PCs/MACs. I don't know if this will affect the TV HD CAM, maybe not, but it could be possible. So, be sadly conscious about that...

raffoulig2017 try to check which firmware version do you have (the latest one is 1.6.214)   If this is not your firmware, you have to update it, following the instructions you can find in this thread.

All, I managed it to get it work with those DNS manipulation method but even after the update to FW 1.6.214 - as reported from others - it still does NOT working without the DNS method!   **bleep** is going on???   Wanted to give that CAM to my parents-in-law BECAUSE of the easy to use way...   Somehow I expected that - everything M$ is takeover -> they screw it up!!!   Not sure if there is any differences about hardware revisions - as mine is around 2,5 years old from Amazon! Also noted after a hard-reset (tiny reset button on the back) it falls completely back to FW 1.6.200 even updated before to 1.6.214!!!   that really **bleep**.... tba4711

Dear tba4711,    what kind of problem do you have? Internet connection failure? Did you tried with another wifi/wired connection? What about (after the reset), re-updating the firmware?   Onestly speaking, apart from this problem with the firmware update, so far my cam is working fine. No issues. Maybe your problem is not the same, and it has to be fixed in another way (that I cannot imagine, the CAM by itself is so basic...).   I am sorry I cannot be more useful than that (but proud that, still, I am more active that Logitech support )   Let us know...!

Hey nelli_iceman & all others (NOT Logitech support!),   I really much appreciate what the people out there are doing to help them out each other - really BIG THANKS folks!!!   It is - as usual with big profit driven companies - poor and sad they are not really helping (out of warranty etc.) - not sure if not willing or relying on other companies services - I mean here are now three companies involved - beside 1.Logitech as hardware vendor, 2.Skype - as service owner and now part of 3.M$ family!!! Do not know if support people just stuck in very static procedures...   And I really do not know if the upgrade to FW 1.6.214 helped people - maybe with newer hardware as someone in one of these threads mentioned that logitech was saying "...that is a hardware issue" or something and as mentioned - mine is nearly 3 years old! But you also saying it helped you, right? When did you bought it? Maybe there is indeed some hardware revision related issue - means new revisions works with FW 1.6.214 and MAYBE older ones not...   I have tested it with wifi and also via my smartphone as hotspot on the mobile network - without any success IF not manipulating the DNS of www.skype.com[http://www.skype.com] internally! Means if that website is responding - all is working!!!   After resetting - I did indeed several re-updating to FW 1.6.214 but always the same...not working until DNS "spoofing"!   I have also opened a ticket by Logitech with all the details of my CAM but guess what - still no response...   thanks! tba4711

The camera was working fine with the latest firmware until I tried to connect it on May the 7th. It only with works when I go into the DNS server and add a forward lookup zone for skype.com. Prior to May 7th once the  latest version was updated it worked perfectly fine with no problem.    lets all of us bombard  with emails and opening tickets with Logitech tech support to solve this issue.    I think if we keep bugging them I am sure they will take an action maybe will release a newer firmware version which the camera will work with no problem.

Hei all,    I am sad to say you that I have no idea of what the issue can be... The firmware 1.6.214 was directly provided to fix this last problem of wrong pinging test. In fact, if you look at its description:   _______________________________________________________________ Logitech TV Cam HD firmware 1.6.214   The Logitech TV Cam HD 1.6.214 firmware update applies only to the Logitech TV Cam HD, and includes the following:   Logitech TV Cam HD release notes:   New Build version: 1.6.214 over-the-air (OTA) Release Date: Jul 15, 2013   Fixed issues   Panasonic N1 TV displays video during a call but has no audio. Add check for internet connectivity via http post in addition to the already available ping to Skype.com. This feature lets TV Cam HD detect network availability on corporate networks that have disabled ping from their network. Should address the vast majority of corporate networks that prevent ping, but still allow internet connection from their network.     New Beta Feature added:   Connect to Corporate WiFi networks secured via PEAP _______________________________________________________________   If the new firmware doesn't fix the issue, than I don't know what to do. Sadly.   About a new firmware release by Logitech, I exclude this possibility at 100%. This is the response I got to my ticket by Logitech (translated by me from Italian to English - texts in Italic are comments of mine):   "We will try to explain to you the current situation (with the TV CAM HD), so that you can have a better understanding about this isse. Even though you have bought the cam now (in fact, i bought the cam in March 2016 from an ebay reseller), it has been retired from market more than one year ago. Since now, it is not available on our website anymore. This is the reason why there are no newer firmware updates since a lot of time (last one is 1.6.214, July 2013). Actually, the product has not been updated from then and it will be never updated again, since it is out of production (yes, they wrote NEVER ). Now that you realized that you bought a product out of commerce by Logitech you have a more clear idea of the reason why you had this issue and how works Logitech Policy with "discontinued" products."   .... so, I am pretty sure they will never update the firmware again. raffoulig2017 I can just suggest you to check again all the settings of the cam and the router. Maybe you can find some helps on the TV CAM HD FAQs[http://support.logitech.com/it_it/product/tvcam-hd]

Hi,   I am going *beep* nuts too. My camera quit the internet on Wednesday (May 11, 2013). I am so p***ed right now with Logitech and M$. We moved overseas in 2013 and ever since then we stay in touch wiht the folks back home through that cam. They have the same on their end and now only because some moron decides to not support it anymore the whole thing just shuts down? I also created a ticket with Logitech and will try to get some more details out of them when it comes to the hardware they used. I already looked at some stuff you can do with the Raspberry Pi. There might be a way to modify the internal hardware slightly so it can work with skype again. But that *beep*ing means I have to start tinkering around and create interfaces and put in a receiver for the remote. I don't wanna do that I just want that thing to work. Anyway I will try the solutions you mentioned here and hope and pray it will work.   THAT IS REDICULOUS.   realShadow

Hey realshadow and all,   I have an update to my ticket from Logitech - which you won'tl like me (it's in German):   Sehr geehrter Herr tba4711,   mein Name ist Gabriella. Mit freundlichen Grüßen   Gabriella Logitech Customer Care support.logitech.com[http://support.logitech.com/] end Insert Email Template Body Text   If you don't want to translate it - they are stating the following: --------translation--------- Dear Mr.tba4711,   my name is Gabriella. Obviously you are requesting for support regarding your TV Cam HD. I'm sorry but we are not able to solve this issue with Skype as Microsoft doesn't support it anymore. Thank you for your understanding.   (The rest is the usual procedure how to reply etc.) --------/translation----------   Isn't that funny????   So, it looks like to me that the FW is completely written by Skype - as if I remember back before M$ take over them - Skype was very eager to protect their protocols etc. against any third party implementation - which of course makes let Logitech look back!   Anyway, that is a Logitech product - although Skype implemented that ridiculous Internet test which can't passed for any reason even though it works if passed anyhow...   The only thing that come to my mind how to make a bit more pressure is to pass that over to most known big tech websites - will contact some in Germany - maybe others can do it also in their countries.   If I have any news - I will let you know.   regards, tba4711

My SKYPE TV CAM HD stopped working...connecting to internet around the 11th may 2016. I have tried new cables  wifi etc it just wont connect. It was fine when i used it around 6th may 2016. So am i right by the earlier posts that thats it its all over you cannot use it anymore. It was convienient, I am NOT going to leave a phone or tablet on 24 hours a day  just to monitor my skype. This unit had a bell/alarm so when it rang i put my tv on and answered,my contacts knew to keep calling to give me time to get tv up and running. So can anyone tell me is it fixable or is it time to throw it out. And if throw out..what do i use to replace it that I can use in the same situation.....ON 24 HOURS A DAY....AND HAS A BELL /ALARM WHEN AN INCOMING CALL IS INITIATED. Many thanks if someone can help me. I live in Australia,am over 50 approaching 60 and not very computer savvy.

Hi,    Thanks for the solution. I tried to apply the second solution. Everything was fine, the camera could log in when it was connected to my laptop, and the hostfile was edited. I updated the firmware to the latest available 1.6.214 and connected back the camera to the router. As some peoplé mentioned, their camera was working with the new fw, but my camera still has connection problems, and not able to connect to the internet.  I purchased two of these cameras because it was the easiest way for my parents, they are old and they don't need too much tech knowledge to use. As someone mentioned before, thi is not a cheap product from Logitech, they should provide a solution for all the users who had a trust in their product, and made an investment to keep in tuch with the family.  It is a really stupid way to test the internet connection to ping the skype website, i don't really undestand why they didn't ping logitech.com... Does someone else know other solution to make skype.com looks like it's pingable? Like I don't want to connect it to my computer, becuase in that way I will loose the biggest advantage of the device.  Someone mentioned there could be a setup in a router to redirect the communication from the www.skype.com[http://www.skype.com] to something else, in that way the device will think th enetwork is wokring. Does someone know anything about that?   If someone from Logitech is reading this forum: I think this could be an easy fix to modify the firmware to check the internet connection on other website - for example on logitech.com. Please modify the software, or make the fw file available to download and provide a software to edit Thanks

This problem has started happening around 14 May 2016.  I am using firmware 1.6.214,  which is supposed to fix the problem.  I have been running a wired connected for years,  but now it fails to connect.   I reset the TVcamHD using the button on the back but still could not connect.   I found this article and tried the hosts.ics technique,  and it connected and loaded firmware 1.6.214 so Iassume this is the best Logitech have to offer.  However the wired connection still does not work.  Wireless does not work either,  unless I use the  hosts.ics  workaround described above,  to redirect www.skype.com[http://www.skype.com] and quiettouch.com to the local host.   Skype works from other devices without ICS,  but I bought the TVcamHD so I could take calls even when the other devices were switched off.  Now I need to have an intermediate Windows PC powered up and in connection path to the internet,  or I can use the TVcamHD.   What is going on?

Everything is the same for me what you described. It's not a cheap device and for example you still can buy it on amazon for 500 CAD. Which is quiet expensive, and it's a peace of  **bleep** right now. My parents are too old to handle computer to make skype calls, that's why I purchased this product. It could be an easy modification for them to change the firmware, I don't really understand why don't they want to do that. We used it for 2 years withouth any problem, and I was so satisfied until last week... .It's just not worth now to use it with the computer.  THANK YOU LOGITECH FOR THE GOOD CUSTOMER CARE!!!!!

As I said in my previous message I used the bridge method that it seems that does not work . Is that correct.? I have watched many videos on how to set up Internet Connection Sharing on windows 10 but each one i watch confuses me more.. Does anyone that has made it work with this method have an instruction link please ? Simplified ..lol Some are mentioning needing two lan cards..one in and one out ..is this correct or can i connect the host via wifi to my hub/router then share to another via a lan connection ?  Steep learning curve !! I know this will probably not cure the problem totally but will enable me to update and check firmware please.   If anyone from Logitech does read their own forums or helpdesk.....Assistance please..xx

I tried it yesterday and I could make it work. But even I downloaded the newest fw (1.6.214) the camera didn't work after I connected directly to the router.  Even you need two LAN cards or have a wireless and a LAN connection.  What I did:  1. modify the host.ics file + add those lines with the www.skype.com[http://www.skype.com] lines  - I opened the file as an administrator in notepad  127.0.0.1 78.141.177.180 www.skype.com[http://www.skype.com/]   127.0.0.1  www.skype.com[http://www.skype.com/]   127.0.0.1 163-248.static.quiettouch.com 2. connected the camera with hardwired LAN connection 3. I had a wireles stick with internet connecton for my computer, and with right click/properties I shared this connection with the     LAN (basically with the camera) 4. The camera is booting up, and testing the internet connection. Since the www.skype.com[http://www.skype.com] is routed to the 127.0.0.1 (own computer), the camera will log in to the skype and going to available. 5. It's updated to a newer firmware at the first power on, and what was a surprise for me, after it came online, and I checked the available software, and it still said there is a newer one (1.6.214), and I downloaded it.   Unfortunately it didn't work with the new firmware neither. Still can't pass the network test.  Useless... The support is very poor here! They doesn't really care about existing customers who spent a lot on this camera. I am still looking for other solutions, I don't want to use it attached to the computer. Why should I do that, I wanted something independent, easy to handle device for Skype....   But you can give a try for the new firmware, i don't know how could it work for few people...

But anyway, I opened a support case with Logitech. I don't expect any solution from them... Don't we have somebody here who purchased this camera within one year (within the warranty period). Probbaly they could start a stronger support case with Logitec, since their product is still under warranty, so they suppose to provide new firmware for them.

Starting in June 2016, Skype has taken the decision to no longer support TV applications; there will be no updates to the application. Please check with your TV manufacturer to confirm when the app will be removed from your device. This will also affect new account creation and password resets. This will only be available through skype.com.  Will I be able to use Skype for TV after June 2016? This may vary depending on the TV model. TV manufacturers may remove the Skype for TV application from some or all of their models. If you have questions, please contact your TV manufacturer for information on the availability of Skype for TV on your TV model.   See https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34642/what-changes-are-coming-to-skype-for-tv[https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34642/what-changes-are-coming-to-skype-for-tv]     It seems that Logitech have jumped the gun and discontinued support in May.
