NOTE: The example used in this article is a Netgear WPN824 router. However, the steps necessary for configuring other Netgear routers are similar. For further details consult your router documentation.

To configure your Netgear router, you may need to do the following:

• Log into router
• Configure basic settings
• Configure wireless security
• Configure wireless MAC address filtering
• Upgrade router firmware

Log into router:

To log into your Netgear router, do the following:

1. Launch your Web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc).

2. Enter the IP address of your router as shown in the screenshot below:

   NOTE: The default IP address is usually http://192.168.1.1

   

3. Enter your router name and password as shown below, then click OK.

   NOTE: The default username and password are admin, password

   

Configure basic settings:

The Wireless Settings tab shown below) is where you can configure the following settings:

• Wireless Network Mode
• Wireless Network Name
• Wireless Channel
• SSID Broadcasting

Wireless Network Mode:

Determines the speed of your wireless network. Your choices are B, G, G and B, and Auto. Logitech recommends choosing Auto to allow for a combination of different speeds.

Wireless Network Name:

You will need to know the wireless network name (SSID) in order to configure your Squeezebox Touch. The network name is shown below:

NOTE: The default network name is Netgear. For security, we recommend changing it.

Wireless Channel:

If there are multiple wireless devices (such as telephones) around your Squeezebox or router, you may need to change the router’s wireless channel to prevent interference. The wireless channel can be changed in the drop-down menu shown below.

SSID Broadcasting:

You will need to either manually enter the SSID into your Squeezebox or enable your router for SSID broadcasting. To enable SSID broadcasting, go to Advanced > Wireless Settings and check Enable SSID Broadcast as shown below.

NOTE: Enabling SSID broadcasting can make it easier for hostile entry of your wireless network.

Configure wireless security:

You will need to select the type of wireless security you will use for your router and Squeezebox Touch. To select your wireless security, do the following:

1. Click Wireless Settings > Security Options as shown below:

   

2. Go to the Security Options section as shown below:

   

3. Choose the form of wireless security you wish to use. There are three types of wireless security that are compatible with the Squeezebox Touch. These are:

   • WEP
   • WPA Personal
   • WPA2 Personal

   NOTE: Please see your router documentation for instructions on configuring your router’s wireless security.

Configure wireless MAC address filtering:

For an extra layer of security, you may have MAC address filtering enabled. This restricts wireless network access to devices on the list. To enable or disable MAC address filtering, please do the following:

1. Choose Advanced > Wireless Settings as shown below.

   

2. Click Setup Access List.

3. If 'Turn Access Control On' is checked (shown below), then MAC filtering is enabled.

   

4. Click Add.

   

5. Enter your Squeezebox Touch name and its MAC address (found on the sticker on the bottom of the Squeezebox Touch).

   

6. Click Add, then Apply.

   

Upgrade router firmware:

You should always have the latest firmware for your router. To verify your firmware version, do the following:

1. Select Maintenance > Router Status (shown below).

   

2. The router firmware version will display.

3. Go to the Netgear website to verify that you have the latest version and to upgrade your firmware if necessary.
