Determining which adapter to use
There are two metal adapters included with Smartcar mount:
- The silver, pill-shaped adapter is designed to stick directly to the outside of your phone or case. It should make direct contact with the mount when you dock your phone.
- The black circular adapter is designed to be placed under your case or rear cover. It should work through most standard cases up to 2mm thick.
IMPORTANT: We do not recommend placing the round adapter on the outside of your phone or case. The magnetic force may be too strong and can pull the Smartcar mount off of your air vent or dashboard when you undock your phone.
- If you use wireless charging on your phone:
Use caution when placing the metal adapter on phones with wireless (inductive) charging capabilities. If you use or plan to use wireless charging, the adapter must be placed outside of the charging coil area.
WARNING: Adapters placed too close to the charging coil can interfere with charging and become extremely hot, causing a hazard. - If your phone has a magnetic screen cover sensor:
Phones with magnetic sensors may experience temporary disruptions, such as sleep or wake if the Smartcar mount is placed too near to the sensor. This is not harmful. Test different areas on the back of your phone before selecting a placement for the metal adapter and mount. This will help ensure there is no magnetic interference when you dock your phone.
Some phones with these sensors may include:- Nexus 6
- HTC One M8/M9 (you can disable Dot View in Settings)
- Samsung S4 (metal adapter and mount should be placed closer to the bottom of the phone)
- Droid Turbo
- OnePlus One
The adhesive on the adapters stick differently to different materials. It may be very difficult to remove from some surfaces.
If you’re installing the adapter on glass, (for example, on a Samsung S6), we recommend the following to ensure the best adhesion:
- Clean the glass well
- Stick the adapter
- Press and hold for at least 15 seconds
If you’re having a problem peeling off the adapter, you can use very thin plastic or a business card to slide between the adapter and the phone. This should give you enough room to peel it off.
