Try using the same outlet
If possible, plug the network adapter into the same outlet as a camera power supply, or have both plugged into a power strip that doesn't have surge protection. Then, run the Powerline Strength test to see the results.
- If the powerline strength is high for this test, then plug the network adapter where you want it to go. Run the Powerline Strength test again. Continue trying different outlets until the test shows a high powerline strength. (See "Outlet Note" below for more information.)
- After stabilizing the network adapter, plug the camera power supply into the outlet where you want to mount the camera. (NOTE: Don't mount the camera yet.) Run the Powerline Strength test again. Continue trying different outlets until the test shows a high powerline strength. (See "Outlet Note" below for more information.)
Don't use surge protectors or UPS with your network adapter or camera power supply
- Don't plug-in a surge suppressor or UPS to the same wall outlet.
- If needed, you can use power strips that don't include surge protection.
NOTE: Surge protection is built into each Logitech Alert device.
Make sure your firmware is up to date
- Verify that you have the latest PC Commander and Camera firmware installed.
- Be sure to have the latest HomePlug firmware on all your Logitech powerline networking devices.
You can check the HomePlug firmware version using the detailed diagnostics report summary from the Powerline Strength test. Check the "HomePlugAV Power Supply" section for each camera and the "HomePlugAV Network Adapter" section. The "Version" should start with "INT6000-MAC-4-4". If the HomePlugAV related sections are empty, you may have a firewall related issue. (See answers 360023357273 and 360023357273 for more information.)
Resolve electrical interference
- Unplug as many things from the powerline as possible, and re-test.
If the performance improves, start plugging the devices back in and then re-running the powerline strength test. Innocent looking devices like a cell phone charger or dimmer lamp can sometimes be the culprit of lower performance.
- Reduce the interference from noisy electrical devices by using a powerline noise filter device. Such filters keep the noise off the rest of the powerline.
- Make sure light dimmers are either fully on or fully off. Otherwise, powerline network device performance can be affected.
- Check that all electrical cords are firmly plugged in or you may experience a reduction in powerline performance.
- Verify all networking cables are securely plugged in.
Additional things to look for include:
- Check the lights on the Logitech camera power supply and network adapter (make sure the LED switch is in the "on" position). If no lights appear, there may be a problem with the device and it might need to be replaced.
- Consider trying Power over Ethernet (PoE).
The cameras are compatible with any standard PoE switch. Essentially, the network cable you plug into the camera provides both data and power. You would just need to have the camera plugged directly into a powered port on a PoE switch, and then connect another port of the PoE switch to the rest of your network. There are also "inline" PoE devices you can use.
- If you have multiple cameras, and the powerline strength test indicates that one or more are much lower than the others, try the test again with the low performers unplugged. You could try relocating the camera power supply that didn't perform well, or using using PoE for that camera.
Outlet Note
Some power outlets are strong, while others are weak or non-functional. If some or all of the results are low, try different combinations of outlets, both for the network adapter and for the camera power supplies. You can use an Ethernet cable up to 100 meters (325 ft) between the camera power supply and the camera. However, extension cords can drastically reduce HomePlug performance (so, choose longer Ethernet cables over using an extension cord). As you try different outlets, check the results using a combination of the new Powerline Strength page and the Camera Bandwidth page to test the new placement.
For best results, wait to run the tests until the devices have been plugged in to their new location for at least a minute or two.
