If you are having problems learning infrared (IR) commands, complete the following steps:
- Verify you are pointing the original remote at the bottom of the Harmony remote, and are holding the remotes 2-4 inches (5 - 10 cm) apart.
- Vary the angle at which the original remote is pointing at the bottom of the Harmony remote.
- Minimize any light that could interfere with the learning process by covering the space between the remotes. Block out sunlight, or turn off the lights.
- Move your Harmony remote away from any other electronic devices, such as computer monitors, televisions, cordless or cell phones, and power bars. This will reduce any interference.
- Check that the original remote has working batteries. If the batteries are low, the signal coming from your original remote may be too weak for the Harmony remote to detect.
- Be sure to press and release the buttons. Do not hold the buttons longer than 2 seconds.
- If you continue to experience problems, try positioning the remotes 2 inches (5 cm) apart and then try again, slightly increasing the distance each time (2.5 inches, 3 inches, etc.).
- Ensure the device’s original remote is sending infrared (IR) commands. Some cable/satellite receivers have remotes that can send both IR and UHF commands. Check your device manual to see if you can switch your remote to IR. Note: The Harmony remote cannot learn from the original remote if it is sending RF or UHF commands (e.g. if it controls the device from another room or through a wall).
