What is SCART?
SCART is a type of cable connection, like HDMI or component, commonly used in Europe to connect Audio/Video equipment. SCART cables carry audio and video signals and are also capable of detecting whether a connected device is on or off.
How does SCART affect the Harmony remote?SCART cables can sense when a device is on or off and is some cases even send signals to switch the input source on devices such as a TVs and AV receivers. For example, when turning on a DVD player which is connected to a Television using a SCART cable the TV will sense the DVD player has been turned on and switch to the input that the DVD player is connected to.
Using the Harmony remote to control devices that are connected using SCART cable can cause conflicts with input switching as the remote will attempt to switch inputs at the same time as the TV switches inputs on its own.
To resolve this, the SCART feature needs to be enabled on the Harmony remote control software.
Enabling the SCART feature in the Harmony remote control software allows the device to power on, switch to the correct input before the SCART cable sends the signal to switch inputs on the device. The result is the TV always switches to the correct input.
