Nintendo Wii may experience several problems using USB keyboards. If you are experiencing problems with using a Logitech USB Keyboard on your Wii:
1) Update your firmware. The Nintendo Wii, like all other modern consoles, features updateable firmware to the Wii "System Menu". This allows for the device to expand it's functionality in ways authorized by Nintendo. There are two ways to update your Wii Menu:
- Connect your Wii to the internet.
- Play a recently released game on your Wii.
Your Wii requires at least version 3.1, which was released on October 10th, 2007, to use USB keyboards. Checking your Wii system version can be difficult, but if you have the Wii "Everybody Votes" channel, then you have at least version 3.1. You can find what channels you have by turning on the Wii without a game disc inserted.
2) Verify that your game or software supports USB keyboard input. Not all games and Wii Channels support USB keyboards equally. If you have questions about specific game support, Wii Channel support, or if USB keyboard support will be added to your favorite application, it is recommended you contact the software developer.
USB Keyboard support is available on, but not limited to:
- Animal Crossing: City Folk
- Opera web browser for Wii (Requires latest Opera update, available from within the Wii interface)
- Message Board Wii channel
This is just a sampling of confirmed USB compatible applications, and is not an exclusive list.
