The Sound button is used to control the device outputting audio in a specific Activity (AV receiver, stereo). You can customize the Sound mode for convenient access to features of your AV receiver (sound modes, EQ settings).
For example, your Watch TV Activity uses the Television for volume control, but your Watch a DVD Activity uses the AV receiver. In the Watch a DVD Activity, the Volume buttons are assigned to the AV receiver, but you want to turn down the Television's speaker volume. By pressing the Picture button on your remote, the buttons will remap themselves to control your Television, allowing you to use the Volume buttons to control the Television's volume temporarily. Pressing the Picture button again returns to the regular Activity button mapping.
