You can change or fix what a button does on your Harmony remote. You might want to change the command sent by a button, or add a new command that is not mapped to a button yet.
To change or fix what a button does on your Harmony remote
Before you begin, connect your Harmony remote to your computer using the USB cable provided. Log in to your Harmony account and complete the following steps:
1. From the Home page, click Change or Fix What a Button Does. The following prompt appears.
2. Select the device you want to change a button for and then click OK. The following page appears.
The page displays information about how the buttons on your Harmony remote are currently mapped, including:
- Summary information at the top of the page identifying the device being controlled (the device you selected in the previous step), the current mode being configured (TV, Cable/Sat, DVD or VCR/AUX) and, once you select a specific button, what command that particular button sends to the device.
- A Commands list showing all available commands you can assign to buttons on your Harmony remote.
- An image of the remote showing the current button mappings. Hover your mouse over a button to see the button name and the command it sends to the current device.
3. To change a button assignment, click and drag a command from the Commands list onto the desired button.
NOTE: If the command you want to assign doesn’t appear in the Commands list, you can complete a few additional steps to teach the missing command from your original device remote to your Harmony remote. After teaching the command, it will appear in the list and be available for you to assign to a button on your Harmony remote. See “To teach a missing command” below for details.
4. Continue customizing the button assignments on your Harmony remote to suit your own preferences. To change button mappings for a different device, click one of the other mode buttons – TV, DVD, Cable/Sat or VCR/Aux – on the image of the remote to change the device currently being customized. If you don't have a device assigned to a particular device mode, then you won't be able to click the button for that mode. For example, if you have configured your system with no DVD player, then the DVD device mode button won't be clickable.
To reset your customizations to the defaults assigned to the Harmony remote, click Restore all Defaults.
5. When you’ve finished customizing your remote, click Save to return to the Home page.
6. Click SYNC REMOTE to synchronize your Harmony remote with the new settings.
To teach a missing command:
If the command you want to assign to a button on your Harmony remote doesn’t appear in the Commands list, click Teach Command. The following page appears, giving you detailed instructions about how to get ready to teach.
NOTE: To teach a command to your Harmony remote, your original device remote must send infrared (IR) signals.
When you are ready, click Start Teaching. The following page appears.
1. Type the name of the command you want to teach to your Harmony remote. If possible, use the name of the corresponding button on your original device remote.
2. Press the button you want to teach on your original device remote. If the Harmony remote cannot interpret the command, follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the problem. If the Harmony remote recognizes the command, you will see “receiving” and “recognized” messages as the new command is taught to the Harmony remote.
3. Once the command has been successfully recognized, the OK button will become accessible. Click OK to return to the previous page.
4. Your newly taught command will now appear in the Commands list. To assign it to a button, drag it from the Commands list onto the button you want to assign it to.
5. When you are finished, click Save, and then click SYNC REMOTE to update your Harmony remote with your new settings.
