Summary
On January 7, 2026, macOS users running Logitech Options+ or G HUB began experiencing issues where the applications would not load. The UI displayed a purple screen or spinning logo, and customization features were unavailable. Standard mouse and keyboard functions continued to work as expected.
Technical Details
Options+ and G HUB use a local communication service to allow different components of the applications to talk to each other securely. As part of this security model, the apps verify that the components involved in this communication are genuine Logitech applications.
This verification depends on two factors:
- Who signed the application
- Whether the signing certificate is valid
On January 7, 2026, one of our macOS signing certificates expired. Because of this, the verification step incorrectly concluded that the applications were not valid and blocked internal communication. This resulted in the applications failing to load their user interfaces, so updating the app before this release which fixes the issue also wasn’t possible.
The underlying check has now been updated so that it validates the certificate as it existed at the time the application was built, rather than checking whether the certificate is currently valid. This aligns with standard macOS validation behavior and prevents this issue from occurring in the future.
FAQs
What is the technical solution used to fix this issue?
We released an updated version of the application signed with a valid macOS certificate. This ensures the app components can authenticate correctly and restores normal functionality. IT administrators can deploy the updated installers as needed:
Is there a silent installation option for mass deployment?
Yes. The updated offline installer for Options+ supports the same silent installation and mass‑deployment methods you already use in your environment. Simply download the latest offline installer (linked above) and deploy it through your existing deployment tools. We also updated download links across our website and Logitech Sync Hub to ensure consistency - please verify you’re installing Options+ version 1.98.824948 or above.
If users are stuck on the Options+ loading (purple) screen, how do we recover those devices?
Deploy the latest Options+ offline installer (version 1.98.824948 or newer) to affected machines. The application will resume normal operation after installation.
Can we deploy the updated version of Options+ through our MDM solution (Jamf, Intune, Kandji, etc.)?
Yes. The updated installer can be deployed through any standard macOS MDM solution using your existing deployment workflow.
Will the expired certificate prevent automation scripts or login‑window items from launching Options+?
No. Startup items and automation triggers launch as expected. The issue affects only the application’s internal communication, which causes the UI to stall but does not block system‑level launch behavior.
Can Logitech provide a list of all files or components impacted by the certificate issue?
The issue does not affect or modify any files. It impacts three application processes — Updater, Agent, and the User Interface — which are unable to communicate with each other until the updated installer is applied.
Does the expired certificate impact configuration profiles, system extensions, or device enrollments?
No. Configuration profiles, system extensions, and device enrollments are not affected. The issue is limited to inter‑process communication within the app.
Can users continue working without their custom settings if the app is not updated?
Yes. Devices continue functioning with default out‑of‑box behavior. Software‑based customizations remain unavailable until the updated installer (version 1.98.824948 or above) is installed.
Does this issue affect offline‑only machines or machines behind strict firewalls?
Yes. All macOS installations of Options+ are affected, regardless of network connectivity.
Does this impact shared‑workstation or VDI environments?
Yes. All macOS environments running Options+ are affected.
Will this happen again? What preventive measures are being implemented?
We have corrected the logic that caused this issue and implemented a more robust validation approach aligned with macOS standards.
Will older macOS versions (still within our support window) receive updated installers?
Options+ officially supports the last four macOS releases:
- macOS 26 Tahoe
- macOS 15 Sequoia
- macOS 14 Sonoma
- macOS 13 Ventura
For macOS 12 Monterey, a dedicated Logi Certificate Patch tool is available here.
Are there logs or diagnostics confirming the issue is resolved after installation?
There are no specific log indicators. You can confirm resolution by launching Options+ and verifying that the UI loads normally without getting stuck on the purple loading screen.
Some users need to troubleshoot this issue on their own. Where can I direct them for help?
We’ve published user‑facing support documentation and an FAQ with troubleshooting steps. You can direct users to that resource here.
