The Circle View Doorbell is an electronic product with components that have optimal operating temperatures for performance and longevity with an operating range that corresponds to ambient temperatures as stated below:
- -20 to 40C: 8 -16V AC
- -20 to 45C: 17 -24V AC
If the system is exposed to conditions that can take its internal temperatures beyond the normal operating range, the system will apply thermal control measures, including shutting down so that the system can appropriately return to its normal operation range before turning on again.
In these cases, the Apple Home app live stream will let the user know, and once the system has shut down, the status LED will rapidly blink red while it returns to a normal operating state. The system can return to normal operating states within a few minutes, or it can take hours, depending on the ambient conditions the product is in.
Below are examples of scenarios where this can happen and some mitigations options where relevant:
- If the product is located in the shade, but the ambient temperature goes above the supported levels (40C: 8 -16V AC, 45C: 17 -24V AC)
- If the product is in a location that gets direct sunlight, the heat from the sun can cause the product to heat up even if the ambient temperature is not close to the upper threshold.
- We recommend the following: consider moving the doorbell install location and the associated wiring to a place that does not get direct sunlight or if you prefer the existing location, installing an eave or mechanism to provide shade for the device.
- If the product is left outside in the cold where it has not been installed or powered on for a while.
