You can customize the buttons on your Harmony remote to change default button assignments or to add new commands to suit your own preferences.
If the command you want to assign to a button on your Harmony remote doesn’t appear in the Commands list, you can teach the command to your Harmony remote. To assign a command to a screen option, see Knowledge Base article 18267.
To customize buttons on your Harmony remote
Before you begin, connect your Harmony remote to your computer using the USB cable. Log in to your MyHarmony account and complete the following steps:
- Click the Buttons tab.
- Below Change or Fix What a Button Does, select a device or activity from the list and click Go.
- If you selected an activity, select the device you want to send the command to. The Commands list for the selected device is displayed.
The page displays information about how the buttons on your Harmony remote are currently mapped, including:- An image of the remote showing the current button mappings. Hover your mouse over a button to see the button name and the command it sends to the current device.
- A Commands list showing all available commands you can assign to buttons on your Harmony remote.
- To change a button assignment, click and drag a command from the Commands list onto the desired button.
NOTE: If the command you want to assign doesn’t appear in the Commands list, you can click Add or Fix Command, and complete a few additional steps to teach the missing command to your Harmony remote using your original device remote. After teaching the command, it will appear in the list and be available for you to assign to a button on your Harmony remote.
- Continue customizing the button assignments on your Harmony remote to suit your own preferences. If you’re setting button assignments for an activity, you can send commands to different devices, just select the device in the dropdown list to see its commands.
NOTE: To reset your customizations to the defaults assigned to the Harmony remote, click Restore Defaults. This will remove all screen options and button assignments you have created for the selected activity / device, but any commands that you have taught or fixed will be kept.
- When you’ve finished customizing your remote, click OK to return to the Buttons tab.
- Click Sync to synchronize your Harmony remote with the new settings.
To teach a missing command
You can teach a missing command when customizing buttons for that device, or for an activity that uses that device.
Log in to your MyHarmony account and complete the following steps:
- Click the Buttons tab.
- Below Change or Fix What a Button Does, select a device or activity from the list and click Go.
- If you selected an activity, select the device you want to send the command to. The Commands list for the selected device is displayed.
- Click Add or Fix Command.
- Select Add a missing command and type the name of the command you want to teach to your Harmony remote. If possible, use the name of the corresponding button on your original device remote.
- When you are ready, click Next.
- Refer to the on-screen instructions for details about connecting and positioning your Harmony remote and original remote.
- Follow the on-screen instructions, pressing the corresponding command button on your original remote. If the Harmony remote cannot interpret the command, follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the problem. If the Harmony remote recognizes the command, you will see “receiving” and “recognized” messages as the new command is taught to the Harmony remote.
- Once the command has been successfully recognized, the Finish button will become accessible. Click Finish. Your newly taught command will now appear in the Commands list.
NOTE: To assign it to a button, drag it from the Commands list onto the button you want to assign it to. When you are finished, click OK to return to the Buttons tab, and then click Syncto update your Harmony remote with your new settings.
