Some Televisions and AV Receivers have the ability to use direct commands to go to a specific input instead of cycling through a list with a single button. Sometimes these codes are available even if the original remote does not have these buttons.
For example, it is much quicker to have a button that when pressed, tells the Television to go directly to go to the input you need to get a picture from your DVD player instead of having to press the TV/Video button repeatedly to cycle through an entire list of inputs to get to the right one.
To test to see if your Television or AV Receiver has this functionality, please follow these steps:
If your device responds to discrete input commands, you can now adjust the input settings for your device so that your Harmony remote will take advantage of these commands when switching Activities.

In this example we will use a Harmony One Advanced Universal Remote. The steps are similar for all Harmony models.
- Using your Harmony remote, start an Activity that uses the TV
- After the Activity has started and your devices are powered on, press the Devices (or Device, depending on which Harmony remote model you are using) button on your remote. If you are using a Harmony 1000, please see 360023383853 - Accessing and using Device mode on a Harmony 1000. - Choose the device you wish to test
- Use the arrows keys to scroll through the pages of commands. Discrete commands (if available) will start with the word "Input"
- Make a note of which commands work, and which input your device switches to (for example, if InputComponent1 goes to Component 1 and InputSVideo goes to SVideo1). This is important because the input name on the Harmony Remote, may not match the Input name on your device
If your device responds to discrete input commands, you can now adjust the input settings for your device so that your Harmony remote will take advantage of these commands when switching Activities.
