Common issues and solutions for the Circle View Doorbell
PinnedThere are 3 main reasons your Circle View Doorbell will be offline and they are network issues, voltage issues, and thermal issues. The Doorbell will communicate which of these is causing the fault with a flashing colored LED, called the status light, located between the Doorbell button and the LED strip for illumination at the time of disconnection. It will only show this fault for a short time since it will continually try to resolve the issue by reconnecting.
(If you are unable to see the status light please ensure that this feature is not disabled in the settings for the Doorbell located within the Home app.)
If you are getting a flashing green light this indicates a network issue. This doesn't always mean there is an issue with your home network as it could also have to do with the Apple Home Hubs that are being used as well. The first step of troubleshooting for this type of issue is a factory reset of the Doorbell. The steps for that are below.
Make sure you remove the doorbell from the home kit before proceeding with the factory reset.
1. Disconnect your unit from power.
If your device is currently in its mount, use the included ejector tool and push it into the small circular opening on the bottom right of the device, and press firmly. Once you hear the lock release, you can then carefully remove the main unit from the mount.
Keep the unit disconnected for at least 30 seconds before proceeding to the next step.
2. Press and hold down the doorbell button and while doing so, plug the USB power cable connected to a 5V 2A power source back into the device. DO NOT LET GO OF THE BUTTON.
3. Continue to hold the button as the status LED changes its colors. Let go when you see the rapid blinking magenta Status LED (9+ seconds after applying power).
You’ll know the reset is successful when you hear two beeps and the unit returns to the ready to pair state (solid green status LED). At this time you would add the Doorbell back to the Home app to see if the issue has been resolved.
If you are getting a flashing white light then the issue is power related. Firstly please ensure you have the Circle View Doorbell and included Chime kit (white box the Doorbell comes with) wired according to the setup guide located at
https://setup.circleviewdoorbell.logi.com/#/electrical-compatibility
(once you get through the compatibility check it will walk you through the install)
If the above doesn't resolve your issue with a flashing white LED then you need to upgrade your transformer to a more powerful one if your current one doesn't meet the required electrical specs. The product needs a transformer with an output of 8-24 VAC and at least 10 VA. If your transformer meets the required specs then ensure any other devices that may be drawing power from the circuit are removed. This can include lighted mailbox, number signs, porch lights, or sprinkler systems.
If you are getting a rapidly flashing red light, not to be confused with the breathing red light which will slowly fade in and out, then that indicates a thermal issue. (A slowly fading red light indicates someone is viewing the feed.) Below are examples of scenarios where this can happen and some mitigations that may help:
- If the product is located in the shade, but the ambient temperature goes above the supported levels (40C: 8 -16V AC, 45C: 17 -24V AC)
- If the product is in a location that gets direct sunlight, the heat from the sun can cause the product to heat up even if the ambient temperature is not close to the upper threshold.
- We recommend the following: consider moving the doorbell install location and the associated wiring to a place that does not get direct sunlight or if you prefer the existing location, installing an eave or mechanism to provide shade for the device.
Thanks for being the best part of Logitech and I hope have an amazing day!
Best regards,
Chris

If your Doorbell is not connecting to your network or your HomeKit there are a few steps to try.
1. Reset the Doorbell using the steps outlined above.
1. Attempt to use a different 5V~2A wall block/USB cable to power the device
2. Check the Apple device you are using, and ensure it is on the latest firmware version.
3. Attempt to reboot the Apple Device
4. Attempt to reboot the home network and move as close as possible to the access point.
5. Attempt all pairing methods (NFC, QR scan, and Manually entering the code)
Best regards,
Chris

Well, I am lost in respect to this discussion. No LED is flashing; in fact the small central LED light is not lit. The Logictech Circle View doorbell does not respond. I reset it. It works for minutes or hours and then it goes out again and says there is no response on the apple homekit. It worked great when I first got it. Then it sort of spiraled out of control. At this point I can reset it and it will work for a little while before it does not respond. It appears to be stuck with the night light on - even during the day??? I am not sure what that means. If anyone has any ideas, it would be appreciated.

Sean, your symptoms seem similar to mine. I tried for about a week to get it to work using all of the recommended debugging techniques, nothing worked for more than a minute or two. A few days ago I just exchanged it for a new one at the Apple Store. The new one worked fine first time and (knock on wood) is still working flawlessly. If anything changes I will repost to this thread. Dave

Dave G,
You mentioned a flashing green LED but that you haven't had any issues for a few days. Sometimes if there is an update at any point of the network chain then it can cause it to go offline temporarily. The flashing green LED is the Doorbell attempting to connect to the closest Wifi access point.
Dave Saxby,
It seems you have resolved your issue with a replacement. I am very sorry you had to go through that process and if you have any other issues please feel free to reach out for support.
Sean Pratt,
It seems you have a ticket open with some trouble shooting steps. I would recommend following those so we can get you the fastest resolution.
For anyone else experiencing a like issue where the Doorbell works fine for a while then you start having issues try powering it with a micro USB cable and power brick with an output of 5V~2A. Monitor it closely during this time and see if you have the same problems.

Where can I buy a Logitech recommended doorbell shade or mechanism or "hat" (as tech support advised)?
I had Ring Pro for four years without problem. The Logitech Ring doorbell overheats repeatedly in Winter and Spring, day and night. There is unfortunately. And tech support's recommendation is to not install a doorbell outdoors where it might get warm.

Hello DaveF,
We do not have a specific shading mechanism that we recommend and the Circle View Doorbell is fine to use outside. It's only in environments where the ambient temperature combined with the exposure to direct sunlight causes the unit to go over the operating temps that it becomes an issue.
Also, keep in mind the Circle View Doorbell will show a flashing red LED as well as an error in Homekit that says the device is overheated and needs to cool. If you are not getting both of those errors then the issue is likely not related to overheating.
-
Will there ever be an update that allows the CircleView to be used anywhere but in Iowa? 105 degrees is the lowest of any doorbell camera available, and even the ones that can go to 120 are too low at times in Southern California. Perhaps add a heatsink to the design?
I REALLY want one of these but it just won't work here.
-
Hello Richard,
As long as the ambient temps don't exceed the operating specs of the Doorbell and it's in a shaded or covered environment then you should be fine for most installations. If sunlight does cause it to go over then you can put and alcove around the Doorbell with adequate ventilation or attach a device to shade the Doorbell and usually that resolves any issues.

My doorbell is constantly going offline then online in the past week or so (so many notifications!). Dozens of times a day. This just started happening and is very frustrating. The doorbell has been installed since February. I've upgraded the transformer to a 24v 40va transformer (was a 16v 10va), but this did not help. The doorbell is in a covered north facing doorway so it never sees direct sunlight. I will try a factory reset to see if that helps. It has a strong network signal in the location it's in. Any other suggestions?

Hello Jon,
I went ahead a created a ticket but wanted to post some follow up for others reading this thread. If you are having disconnect issues and have went through the information provided above the main thing we need to know is what color is flashing at the time of disconnection. This will tell us exactly what your issue is and help to narrow down troubleshooting.

Hello!
I want to install this doorbell but we don't have a chime. When the chime is pressed, we want to only chime the HomePod thru HomeKit integration.
Can I just wire it directly to a 24V 10A transformer? If yes, do we need to use the included chime kit?
I've seen multiple reviews of the product where they mention a simple transformer like this one sold from Amazon can be used but they never explain anything about the wiring and whether or not we still need the chime kit.
I would appreciate any help on that matter.
Thank you!
-
Hello Gutemberg,
The Circle View Doorbell requires a pre-existing chime and transformer in order to install. Even if you don't want the chime to ring and only want notifications from you other devices you still have to have a chime with the Chime Kit wired in. Doing otherwise can damage the Doorbell as well as void any warranty on the device.
-
Hello Chris thank you for the reply.
There are many videos over the internet, including ones that are sponsored by Logitech and which have confirmed with the support previously that it can work properly without the Chime.
If the Chime is disabled from the app, there is no reason why the doorbell would be damaged or any warranty voided.
Can you please check with the product/technical support?
I've see other posts here with the same question and even though there is no "public" answer, the community managers always opened support tickets for the users so this can be discussed outside this forum.
Can you help with that? Thank you.
-
Hello Gutemberg,
There are no Logitech sponsored videos or articles saying the Doorbell can be used without a chime. It actually says on the install requirements that compatible chime must be present prior to installation. If you have seen any articles or videos saying anything contrary then they are not acting on behalf of Logitech.
Even if there is no intention for the chime to ring after installation it is still required to use the Circle View Doorbell. Using the Doorbell without a chime can result in damage to the unit and it also voids any warranty as it is installed outside of the install requirements.
I have opened a ticket outside of the forum for you regarding this issue but the answer is still that you have to have a chime to use the Doorbell.

Hey Jon (Bryan) I just noticed your post above, sounds like we are having a similar issue. I was actually going to replace my transformer like you did , mine is currently 16v 10va, but it sounds like it didn't help you. I moved my wired access point to make sure it wasn't a wifi issue. I didn't think it was, but that didn't help either. The status light is solid red when it goes offline. Did you manage to find a fix?
Thanks!

Jameson Wu & Jon Bryan & Support- Same exact issues as these. Past 3 weeks have been the worst. Now wife is pissed. Resetting power seems to fix it most of the time. I do it so much I leave the cover off of my chime to access the quick power connection. Nothing recommended helps. 6 months old. Has anybody gotten a replacement and not have anymore issues?
