API for Logi Circle
Answered-
Hello @Marcus John ! Welcome to the community !
I will be more than happy to answer your question regarding the programming of the Private mode function.
It is not possible to do it at the moment. However, we are working on it. Please keep an eye on our website for announcements as it will be updated when new information is available. You can also to subscribe to our newsletter to receive the information directly : http://www.logitech.com/en-us/footer/subscription-management

Hi, I would like to see local access to the camera feed, and toggling of features such as privacy mode and muting the audio stream. Triggering audio samples based on 3vents would also be useful. Also showing the timestamp in the feed so I can determine latency would be good to have. Thanks, Adrian. -
@Aron Rosenberg? , on our side we need the ability to both set and get data from a particular camera. The ability to see how many clips have been created on a day and be able to download these clips. Another helpful feature is to get a live stream of the video. Apart from this it would be good to be able to change the settings, just like I can do from the interface.

We are thinking about adding support for IFTTT, since their system allows for doing all of these in a reasonably friendly way. They have schedule triggers and we can make actions available for all the common settings.
For all of the folks who responded here, do you think IFTTT would cover your use cases? The only thing IFTTT can't really handle is live stream access.

@Aron Rosenberg? Thanks Logi_Aron for looking into the possibilities. I am not sure if IFTTT would be interesting for us as this is yet another service in between a user's machine and the camera. As the owner of the camera, you would like to have direct access, without having third parties involved. It would, however, bring true value to the camera if an API by logi could be provided. This in particular so that we can bring our services for home automation to a higher level. Thanks again for the support.

I can work with IFTT, but I would prefer a more low level API for integration without the need to rely on a third party. Local network access to the live feed is pretty much essential though. If for any reason the current system becomes inaccessible, I do not want to be left with devices I cannot use. I also work in buildings that have restricted networking infrastructures and very tight security. I would like the option to disable cloud functionality completely to comply with these network restrictions. Thanks, Adrian. -
I think that it would be really good if these cameras could be used with a local NAS.
IFTTT could be interesting but having some low level API would allow people to integrate these cameras and the sensors in Home automation systems as Home Assistant.
I also think that the app and the API should allow people to manually record a video and the length should be reasonable.

@Aron Rosenberg couple of things: API would be awesome to tell if motion is detected. Screen capture within the API would be great too. However my biggest wish is the possibility to add it to my Nas (Synology surveillance station). Onvif or other feed options would all be very VERY (!) much appreciated! Because today I bought the Circle 2 (wired) and was really disappointed to see it is not possible to incorporate it in domotica homecenters like Vera, Domoticz or Athom Homey.. Did not expect that from Logitech. Please bring us a solution because it's such a nice camera! This would really make it a market dominator and I would buy a couple more of them in a heart beat. -
Just got a wired Circle 2 to replace an indoor Nest Cam. The HomeKit support on Circle 2 won out (as well as the price for cloud storage). However, I would really like access to the API in order to have local storage on a NAS and also to integrate it into SmartThings and other smart home platforms. I'm not a fan of using IFTTT for things like this as the delay is too long and it it limited in what it can do (live stream is a must).
As the original Logi reply from over a year ago said it was in the works, is there any status update?

Keep up all the great feedback. Various answers below:
IFTTT is on its way, although its triggers will work a little differently as we don't expose raw motion events in Circle. We really want to work with SmartThings, so if you are a customer of theirs, keep asking them to support Circle cameras!
Its unlikely we will ever support ONVIF. That protocol has no foundation in security and encryption anchor that can be used.
For those looking for NAS type integrations, honestly Circle 1 or 2 isn't the product for you. There are plenty of IPCAMs that support those use cases.
We are continually working to expand our Alexa, Google Assistant and other integrations, so stay tuned.

"For those looking for NAS type integrations, honestly Circle 1 or 2 isn't the product for you. There are plenty of IPCAMs that support those use cases." The only reason for this is that Logitech don't support it! I want a camera that does both of these things, smartthings integration AND NAS recording. What you are suggesting means I have to put two cameras up in every location. I bought the circle cams because of their small size and wide viewing angle, something I had not found in other products at the time This kind of response is typical of Logitech! I cannot count the amount of logitech devices I have purchased over the years that where the hardware is great, but the software never becomes fully featured enough to be worth keeping. I'm now experimenting with several Xaiomi cameras and a couple of lesser known chinese brands, which already have most of the above functionality. The 5 circle2 cameras I purchased are sitting in a box on a shelf. And as for your comment on ONVIF? well, that provides a great deal of insight into those responsible for the Circle2 software. -
@Aron Rosenberg? thanks for your reply, I hope you will extend the IFTTT to a direct (rest)API too? As you probably know IFTTT is very slow and that lost time can be important securing things. If I get my screenshot 10-20 seconds after the fact maybe even 60 seconds then what use is it? Please enable the API.
Also about ONVIF, that's just one option. You could also provide a mjpeg streamm and both can be protected with a user/password combination. Also, it should be up to the user if he/she wants to enable the feature.

Here is the list of Circle 2's third-party open source components. https://opensource.logitech.com/opensource/index.php/Logi_Circle

Is it possible to expose some sort of on/off switch for turning the camera on/off and also toggling privacy mode on/off? This way we can easily turn the camera or privacy mode on/off from HomeKit but more importantly, we can setup an automation in HomeKit to turn the camera or privacy mode on when we leave home and off when we arrive home. Like others have mentioned, having the camera recording when my family is pointless and a waste of internet bandwidth.

Update: 10-25-2018 IFTTT is now live: https://ifttt.com/logitech_circle

@Aron Rosenberg? Any update about the possibility of local API and local video access? IFTTT is cool but can take up to 30mins to trigger flows so it isn't all that useful for more real-time applications. I would love to be able to access the camera feed locally and record it to my PC/NAS to have my own backup of footage.
