Circle 2 Wired Continuous Recording?

Circle cameras record based on motion, and that motion is then analyzed by our computer vision algorithms. If the motion is deemed relevant the recording is saved. If the motion is not relevant, the video is not saved. If you have continuous relevant motion, then the system will record and save it as a 5 minute long event. Your timeline will then consist of event bubbles every 5 minutes.

@Logi_Aron - thanks for the reply. Disappointing since this isn't really continuous recording. If it doesn't pick up motion, it isn't recording. I've had a few instances where the cameras didn't pick up motion and there was no recording of an event.

If 24/7 streaming is available, I should be able to view footage for that period of time in the timeline. It would be really great if you could opt into continuous recording, I'd even pay a little more for that functionality. If the cameras are always streaming this seems like an easy thing to implement.

I would also love the option of 24/7 recording (like my old Nest did)

If we supported 24/7 recording how would you expect that extra content to show up in the app? We would also likely need to make changes to the Circle Safe plans or add this option as an a-la-carte purchase.

Like it is in Nest works fine, a scroll able timeline.

I think it should be included by default like it is with the Nest pricing plan, but I guess I would pay a little more for it if it was available.

I don't trust your algorithm then. And losing trust in security equipment will be hard to rectify.

Like these other users today, I'm coming to grips with the lack of continuous recording.

I've purchased two wired Circle 2s for a new home. Today, with the camera pointed at the inside of a carport, failed to detect a garage door opening, a car pulling in, a person getting out, and walking up to the house. No person detection, no green zone alert, no blue high activity alert, no grey low activity alert. Nothing. The recording begun only after that person was halfway through the door. Simply, it failed. In this example alone, my family has lost faith in these cameras. (The other camera alerts us when a car's headlights hits a single blade of grass.)

Now I went with Circle 2s for HomeKit support, which is also not fully baked. (Example: motion sensor notifications trigger for ANY movement, not just movement in zone(s), rendering any automations useless and inaccurate. A car in the corner of the screen can trigger my lights to come on. Not intended.) I didn't want to burden my family with multiple apps, but without basic, functional HomeKit support, there's no benefit over the Nest.

Nest's subscription is $5 per cam for 24/7 continuous recording. (Even alerts me if my dog was barking.) And it's 50% off additional cameras after that. I'm paying $19 per month for two cams now, and I couldn't tell you what value I'm getting.

With HomeKit not fully baked, my lack of confidence in your "algorithm", and a more expensive subscription with less features, I need some convincing not to rip these down when I get home. I'm 700 miles away and I can't review who just entered my house!!

@Aron Rosenberg? Like @Mark Whaley? suggested, a scroll-able timeline would work well. I think the current UI could be tweaked fairly easily to include a full timeline, while integrating the current blips for events when motion is actually detected.

Thanks for pointing this out. I was under the assumption that the Circle 2 was also constantly recording based on those reviews. Between HomeKit functionality not working reliably and this, I'm considering returning this camera. It's unfortunate there's not many HomeKit compatible cameras out there.

How long would you want the continuous recordings to be stored for? Does it need to match the length of the Basic or Premium plan? Just trying to figure out how we can balance the cost for everybody.

@Aron Rosenberg? Thanks! I think matching it to the plan lengths would be ideal!

I agree with @Joshua Jordan? on the plan lengths.

@Aron Rosenberg? is there a beta for the iPhone I could be added to ?

The plan lengths of Nest Aware are pretty straight forward and easy to remember:

    • $5 per month, or $50 yearly for 5 days of storage
    • $10 per month, or $100 yearly for 10 days of storage
    • $30 per month, or $300 yearly for 30 days of storage.
    • Save up to 50% with multiple cams.

I have 4 cams. I wouldn't mind paying $25 a month to store for 10 days. This is reasonable. Some services try to trump that; for example, Canary offers the first 3 cams for $10.

But @Aron Rosenberg?, is continuous recording feasible near-term? This is currently a deal breaker for me but I wish to stay with Logitech. Please advise.

All of this feedback will help us figure out how we productize it, but "near-term" is too nebulous to comment :)

    On pricing:

Arlo has an a-la-carte option for $9.99 per camera (14 day) or $19.99 (30 days) per month which is independent of your regular service plan, but offers a 50% discount for 2+ CVR purchases. Arlo might be a closer match since they operate in an activity based model like we do. Nest is either all or nothing. Canary doesn't a full CVR mode, they say its "full length clips", but they are still motion triggered, so its not really a match.

Do you think your home Internet can sustain 4 cams doing sustained streaming? That would be 4mbps.

Because of everybodies feedback, we are having very intense discussions within the team on this topic. Keep it up as it helps guide us.

One feature that would be very useful is if we can turn on/off the camera based on an automation via HomeKit. Personally, I only want the camera on when our security system is armed and off when it's disarmed. Also, I'd prefer if there was a 24 hour only recording option that is still a part of the free plan as many users don't need recorded history for extended periods.

+1 to continuous recording option. I miss this feature as I used to be a Nest user. Do not appreciate that the reviews mis-stated this functionality.

My home internet could stream all 5 cameras. (And yes, I'm already a premium subscriber.)

@David Lee?, Which other reviews mis-stated this? The ones in the original post describe our system correctly. Circle's motion based recording system operates differently than Nest's since it uses a computer vision based system to filter recordings. However, you will get continuous recordings within our current system, if you have sustained relevant motion according to the Computer Vision algorithms. We understand this model isn't ideal for all users which is why we are working on true continuous recording plans.

I would also like to have continuous recording. The Arlo already has this (CVR plan).

I would also like continuous recording as well. That's one of my favorite features from Nest.

Agree with everyone. Very important and useful feature that I hope will be implemented soon.

It definitely needs this. During the day it is fine?, but consistently misses motion at night, even with night vision enabled. Continuous recording would fix all of this, even if I needed to pay a bit more per month.

Another vote for continuous recording. I would expect a continuous timeline within the app but that can be scrolled as it is today, perhaps 5min intervals to scroll between, but continues recording between the intervals that you can then play/scrub through. With the Blue/Grey bubbles added at the relevant points within the timeline so it visually shows where to focus immediate attention.

This should be implemented as another on/off configurable option so that those with poor internet have the option to disable it and those with better internet can turn it on.

I currently have 3 Wired Circle 2 cams outdoors and adding a further 2 indoors shortly. The HomeKit integration needs looking at also as you need the features available for the motion areas (from the plan) and options to enable/disable privacy automatically based on the HomeKit location automation.

Also I am happy to BETA test anything for you, I have a high speed internet connection and BETA test for other HomeKit vendors.

@Aron Rosenberg? Any updates on CVR functionality? A timeline on when this might be released?

We don't have a release timeline to announce at this time.

Agree with the desire for true continuous recording. If I had known before buying these I wouldn't have bought. My bad for not researching better.

I want the actual video because I have been experiencing people and cars appearing and disappearing from the video provided by the bubble timeline. Has anyone else experienced this?
