Darker image quality with latest Firmware update 5.6.28 on Circle 2
AnsweredI have updated the firmware yesterday on both of my cameras, within seconds of the update completing, the difference in video brightness has decreased.Has anyone else seen this with the latest update?
Both of my cameras are wired and window mounted. The pictures say it all but they are still pending review... I’d like to revert the firmware, is this possible Logitech?

I too have noticed the image has darkened significantly after this update.
I've tried fidgeting around with the settings to no avail.
I did not need to turn on "IR night vision" prior to the update.
Now I can barely see the end of the driveway through "Live View" of the camera video, and I've got a very very short driveway!!!
Edit: Added images from window mounted Circle 2 Wired.
I deliberately chose these images because the camera was sitting behind a dirty window for each screen shot.
Even though the dirty window affected image quality, you can certainly see the drastic differences before & after firmware revision was applied to the camera.
1.) Before latest firmware.
Source: Video recording, lights on.
2.) After latest firmware. (one week later roughly same hour at night after revision applied)
Source: Video recording, lights on
3.) Live view screenshot after revision.
Source: Live View, lights on.
4.) Live view with lights off shown here makes the image too dark.
Source: Live View, lights off.
5.) Necessitating switch to IR Night Vision.
Source: Live View, night vision ON, lights off.
While true, you can see more with night vision, the image before firmware was revised with night vision ON, in my case was slightly better.
The revised night vision image, still looks quite muddy/blurry.
I realize these settings require fine tuning. One size does not fit all especially when it comes to video image quality.
Everyone's home/camera positioning is different from one another. Some are installed in brighter locations, some are installed where no light exists.
Since the revision, I have had missed activity notifications at least a dozen times or more, and the notifications in particular that concerned me most were people coming into the driveway to park, and coming to the door.
I was kicking myself for missing the Black Friday promotion after I saw what the revisions had done to image quality. 😂
I could have purchased 2 more cameras without this newer firmware for a great bargain! 😆
Very pleased to see Logitech response, and possible reversion back to the old firmware revision prior to 5.6.28.
I certainly hope you folks are having better luck.
My ticket is submitted so hopefully we can help workout some resolution.
Cheers.

I was just about to start a topic on exactly the same issue!
I have two wired cameras. One of them is in sufficiently dark environment and the night mode might really be slightly better after the update. But the other one is now completely USELESS. Added are two screenshots one night apart.
Really hoping for a quick fix or a possibility to downgrade the firmware!

I too noticed a significant drop as all above. 2 Cameras bought only a couple of days ago, I upgraded the firmware and instantly noticed a huge difference in captures when scrolling back through my night time recordings only moments before upgrade! Am thinking of returning to factory settings to see if this cures the problem?? What a faff though!

Just updated and am finding the same thing. The image pretty much turnes grayscale when the ambient light is dim in the hallway, recordings from a few minutes before the update are brighter and colourful. According to the release notes this was supposed to improve low light image quality : /

After updating the firmware on one of my Circle 2 wired cameras, I noticed that the image quality dropped markedly. Where before, the image was crisp with good contrast, now it’s smeary, with less detail, less contrast, and looks as though it’s not focused properly. Not happy. Needles to say, I won’t be updating the firmware on my remaining Circle 2’s.

@Craig Stear? As I posted earlier I got an update from the representative:

Thank you for reaching out. My name is Kristina and I will assist you. Thank you for providing the screenshots. You case is forwarded for review and we will recontact you. Thanks for the understanding.

Thanks everyone for your feedback on video quality in the 5.6.28 firmware update – specifically the reduced brightness/color saturation under low light conditions.
The intent of this firmware is to improve video quality in low light and night vision scenarios to reduce blurring, create smoother video playback, and allow for clearer visibility of moving objects in order to aid in their recognition. These improvements are a direct result of the feedback we’ve heard from customers on video quality.
We are investigating what adjustments can be made in future firmware updates to increase the brightness and color saturation while minimizing the impact on the motion blur and recognition improvements we've made with this firmware.
We will continue to keep you posted here, but please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any other changes you notice related to video quality by using our in-app support or at innercircle@logitech.com.
Thanks!

Thank you for the reply but please be aware that in my cases, I was very content with the image quality at night. The situation now is so bad as to be unusable.
You seem to imply that the current image quality at night is intended. Unfortunately it renders all four of my cameras close to unusable where before they were perfectly fine for my use.
Hopefully you will resolve this to our satisfaction or at least give users in this thread a choice on night time image quality.

Thanks for the update, this is much appreciated. As quite a few people have said, myself included, for the use/purpose of my cameras, they were doing the job perfectly. Thanks to the quality that the videos captured with a recent incident, the police took a copy... sadly with the darkness of the picture now, it would not have been possible with this new update. I have recently promoted this camera to friends/family and colleagues, resulting in 10+ cameras being purchased (thanks to Black Friday too!) One question I have whilst waiting for a resolution, is can the firmware be reverted/updated to the previous version, so at least I have two cameras that work at night behind windows? I appreciate the agile development and testing and can see that you can push updates, if this is available, please do let me know. Kind regards Craig -
@Craig
Who at Logitech did screw up the firmware so badly this time?
I have exactly the same problem. I have 3 Logitech Circles and they are a useless now with firmware 5.6.28. Horrible image quality!!! Very dark + blurry.
@Craig
Yes absolutely unacceptable! I just don't understand how someone can screw up the firmware for an ip camera so badly!
My problem topic:

Thanks for your response to our feedback on the new firmware 5.6.28.
We want to support your requests to get back to your preferred experience and work with you on any possible future developments to resolve these issues while bringing forward the remaining benefits of 5.6.28.
To start this process, create a support request using the in-app support section for the affected cameras, and reference this post. If you have already created a support request, we’ll be reaching out shortly to continue the process on our end.
If you had done a reset of the camera after the 5.6.28 upgrade, you will need to follow the instructions here (https://support.logitech.com/en_us/article/How-do-I-reset-Circle-2) after your firmware is downgraded even if your camera is already blinking blue due to the firmware downgrade.

Send a request in the app.
I can assume that you also have a number of Logitech Circles with the development team there? It is a bit strange to ask people for images, you must have seen yourself during testing version 5.6.28 that something is very wrong with this firmware update. You can see right away that the image quality is very bad (blurred + dark).
I am so mad right now with the development team of Logitech that I want to sell my Logi Cirle cameras an buy Netgear Arlo Pro 2. Just quit messing arround with the "AI software" you guys are making, it's getting worser every firmware update. You guys aren't working on AI, the development team is just adjusting the firmware the wrong way.

I truly don't understand how anyone would want to keep using firmware 5.6.28 after having used the good "old" 5.2.191. Every aspect of the image has worsened, the brightness, the sharpness, the colors.... As reported before, it went from a good camera to a poor one If not unusable in some cases.

Having the same issue and have requested a rollback to the previous firmware version. Thankful I only updated 1 camera to this version but am very disappointed it was even released with such poor video quality as a result.
Will update back if they actually do provide a rollback/downgrade as suggested in this thread.
