Logitech Circle 2 HomeKit Secure Video Support

Now that I finally got the camera working again I have a new issue.

How to I set up motion zones or at least reduce the sensitivity?

Even with only vehicles selected the camera is constantly detecting motion and as this camera is in my backyard there are never any vehicles. Plus this seems to be only for recording and this camera controls all the outdoor floods in my yard. This worked perfectly before this horrible update. I might as well just have them on as the camera turns them back on as soon as they shut back off after one minute.

TZ, I don't think either of those features are currently supported by Secure Video - have to wait for Apple to add them I guess

Seems like this would be something that would come from Logi not Apple.

at this point I wish I hadn’t updated the camera.

    Chris, this is Apple's response.

"That camera is a Logitech product, not an Apple product.

    https://www.logitech.com/en-ca/product/circle-2-home-security-camera

Apple provides the iCloud storage and the Homekit software to manage the device, but it's Logitech that provides that software."

You’re no longer using Logitech’s backend. It’s all through your HomeKit and iCloud. Doing this has removed Logitech’s servers.

Why don’t you contact customer support and revert back so you can go back to using their app and services?

    in reply to BP,

Seems I can’t go back as the newest Mac I own is a the very last 17 inch MacBook made. It can not run the firmware updated as it requires 10.14 or newer and my MacBook will not run anything beyond 10.13. I’ve been waiting for Apple to replace with something I like and this month Apple finally has.

I am planning on getting the just released 16 inch MacBook that was just released after the holidays when price dips. But I’m not going to buy it months early just to run a Firmware updater.

So now I’m just trying to understand how everything works as it seems I’m stuck with it

my understanding that the software that controls features is in the cloud and not in the hardware. So now it is Apple’s software not Logitech

Now that I finally got it working I like the video and I’m ok with paying $3 for it. That video works really well .

The motion software is typical first version Apple software with very limited features. It’s barely usable for trigging recording and there are zero options for using as a trigger so it constantly triggers.

Guess I’ll replace the motion function of the Circle 2 with another Hue motion sensor.

Motion detection does seem to be a real issue at the moment. There was a pair of magpies on my rear lawn earlier and I was getting motion detection notifications every second or so, even when actually in the home app watching the live stream. I'm not sure where this sits but I wonder if this is a Logitech issue? It would certainly be good if there's a way to expose motion sensitivity via HomeKit.

Not sure if anyone experienced this, but my camera locked up about 48h after updating. I could still access past recordings from the Home app, but no more live stream or new recordings. A simple power cycle cleared the problem, but it never occurred on the prior FW.

All still ok here. I've had to turn notifications off though. I've also realised in the timeline the day and date are misaligned 😂 currently I'm on Saturday 17th November yet it's actually Sunday 17th here in the UK 🤣

I hadn't realised that Logitech are first to market with Secure Video support so I'm guessing it's all a bit beta for Apple as well. 🙃

    @tz

You don't need a program on your Mac/PC to downgrade the camera firmware, that is done from our servers. The camera just needs to online and connected to the Internet. A standard setup in the Home App should be good enough for you to submit a ticket to Customer Support asking for the downgrade (you will need the MAC address from the camera).

I did call in and asked to be downgraded. Your techs insisted that they needed remote access to my Mac. First had me install a remote app on my Mac which they them used to try to install another remote app. Both these apps where already on my Mac as I do remote tech work myself. Then remotely went to your server and downloaded the firmware installer that needed an os one version newer than my Mac runs.

After wasting almost my entire Friday then they wanted me to buy a PoE adapter which made no sense as the camera is Wifi only.

So after wasting most of my Friday as I stayed home from work I was told I would have to buy a newer Mac to downgrade the firmware.

@tz What file did they have you install? There are no downloadable firmware images or installers for Circle. What number did you call?

I didn’t call anyone. After I put in a support ticked I got a bunch of phone calls.

this is the download page they downloaded from.

That file is a firmware update for Logitech Wireless Keyboard dongles, it has nothing to do with Circle cameras. I saw from the other postings that you were able to resolve the reset issue, by properly aligning the white cover with the button. For all others, the LEDS change color when the reset button is engaged. If you don't see the LEDS change color, then the button isn't being pressed correctly, and either the cover is mis-aligned or you aren't pressing hard enough. You need to hold the reset button in for a full 9 seconds and you should see the LEDS go magenta and green flashing (they will progress through a couple of states). See https://support.logi.com/hc/en-ca/articles/360025171874--FAQ-Circle-2#button

Yeah, on my own the next day I discovered that the rubber covering was no longer over the reset button and had the camera added back into Homekit and working in less than 10 minutes. This also fixed the muffled sound the camera had.

So who were the techs that called me and insisted that I needed to install TeamViewer and AnyDesk on my Mac? I remember one was named Joey that remoted into my Mac and download the Firmware updater and basically made a big mess of my Mac that I had to clean up after. Once it got to the point that they wanted to start messing with my router and asking me to buy a PoE addater I was done with them but not before wasting most of my Friday.

    尝试重新添加到homekit。 在配对模式下,配对指示灯现在从蓝色变为绿色。 相机在Apple HomeKit应用中可见吗?

You can include me. I have the relevant iCloud storage space, three cameras, connected to an Apple TV 4K. I can only live stream.

This morning I can no longer even stream. All my cameras are now useless. How do I contact support to have my old firmware reinstated?

Oddly, since upgrading to MacOS 10.15.1, I just get a black screen when I try to view the live stream in the Home app - this happens in picture-in-picture mode too. I can view recorded footage fine, and my iPhone and iPad still stream fine too.

Running 10.15.1 with no issues. Apart from motion sensor now super sensitive even to light where I thought I was a PIR style sensor?! Makes it useless for turning on local lights to camera as I makes them activate due to the light going on off. So useless. Is there a place to highlight issues to Apple?

You can use the Feedback Assistant app to give Apple feedback. Circle 2 cameras have both a PIR and an optical/video based motion sensor. Both are now used for HomeKit, previously just the PIR was. The optical/video one is needed to make the camera work behind glass (window mount). We are working with Apple on how best to resolve this as the current HomeKit UI doesn't allow for any motion sensor configuration.

I'm having the same recording issue. I can stream properly in the home app but nothing ever records. I've tried restarting the camera, different home hubs, togging recording settings...same issue. (Using 200G icloud with latest beta firmware)  Please help.

After going through hell after this firmware update I’ve got the camera working well as far as video and recording it. But even the video gets recorded way too often. It practically is recoding  almost continuously with just small gaps between recordings. Almost all show it was trigged by people. I was the only person in my backyard for less than 30 minutes.  Plus it’s now totally useless as a motion trigger.

My trail with the circle 2 had just ran out. Camera worked fantastic under Logi software. Apple’s secured video settings are way too limited for anything beyond basic streaming and recording.

I’m a long time Apple user and this is typical first version of their stuff so I’m hoping that it improves in the next month or so.

is it my understanding that in a month or so I can still go back to Logi firmware

@tz You can do back to the Circle native firmware at anytime you want, you just need to submit a support request and ask for the downgrade back to the 5.6.x firmware.

    @tz It's Beta. 😊 I'm thinking it's pretty good for a first beta too.

    Thank you :)

I’m going to give Apple sometime to add features back in. Plus it is my understanding that Logi is working with Apple on this. The Apple deal is $3 a month for 200 gigs. But it’s actually not that bad of a deal as the camera doesn’t count against the 200 gigs. Not that I have any use for this storage as I have my own servers.

    Logi_Aron Thanks for the info!

does anyone know if there are any benefit from using different hubs over others? in terms of reliability/performance regarding motion analytics currently for beta use?

has there been any firmware upgrades since Homekit secure release? iv not kept tabs, currently on 8.0.48

I’m using an AppleTV 4K as my hub and motion is pretty much useless.

The latest homekit update also broke another function that I used. I would crete a scene that would turn sometime on and then create an action that turned that same device on but would shut it off after X minutes. This no longer works so I no longer can manually turn something on and have it automatically turn back off. So far I haven’t found anything to replace this function.
