Logitech Circle 2 HomeKit Secure Video Support
-
I have a range of devices from different vendors that I’m using homekit to tie together but the one plug that I need to turn off after a time is a Wemo plug.
I‘Ve only messed with shortcuts a tiny bit. Don’t know a way of creating a shortcut that turns on a device and then back off after a set time.
I’m about four months into homekit. I first used it to replace all my X10 automation and then expanded on it. So far I’m very happy with HomeKit. I use mostly Siri on my watch to control stuff.

@Logi_Aron, Thank you for your continued contributions and for taking the time to respond to people.
Do you have any comment to offer on whether it’s best to use a HomePod AppleTV, or AppleTV 4K? If either of the later, I presume wired ethernet connection would be most successful as opposed to WiFi, simply to ensure no dropouts, always available?
-
@dan AFAIK, there is no difference in HomePod and the AppleTV's in terms of their performance as a Home Hub device. iPad's work, but they have the drawback that they can run out of battery if you don't leave them plugged in.
Wired Ethernet will always work a bit better than WiFi, but that might not be noticeable.
Here at Circle HQ, we test with everything, but notice most issues come down to WiFi router / firewall choice and split SSID / bands. Not all WiFi routers properly route mDNS / Bonjour between different bands correctly especially for older WiFi routers.

@Logi_Aron. That’s excellent feedback. Thank you.
My home hub is consistently set as one of my HomePods, which seems to be the one closest to one of my eero pro routers. I’m similarly having an excess of motion alerts, but I’ll stick with this configuration for the time being, at least until HomeKit makes its debut on Eero. Thanks for the detailed post!

We aren't able to reproduce this yet, but this is assuming you have followed the instructions to enable recording (its not enabled by default in the Home App). It is on our radar and we are running test cycles to attempt to reproduce.
The other issue we are trying to reproduce and track is the one where after a few days the camera stops responding.
-
My experiences, for what they’re worth. I’ve encountered both issues Aron mentioned and resolved both.
Both of my cameras went from working 100% to permanent not-responding randomly after about a day or two. I was able to resolve this by moving them both to my 2.4GHz WiFi rather than 5GHz. The home hubs are on the 5GHz, but there is no separation between the bands in terms of vLAN in my network. 2.4 & 5 are the same LAN.
After switching the WiFi network from the 5 to the 2.4 for each camera, the cameras stopped producing recordings. I was able to remedy by unplugging all of my home hubs, waiting until the home app realized that all were disconnected, then plugging them back in. Restarting the hubs this way fixed the recording issue immediately.

I was able to fix the recording issue
When I originally converted my 2 cameras to the beta firmware I had "Recording" turned OFF in the Logi app. I believe this was the cause. It disables the motion sensors in the Home app and you can't turn them back on because the camera is no longer accessible by the Logi app.
I contacted support to downgrade my firmware (send your camera's MAC address in the initial request to expedite the process) - after completing the downgrade process and adding the cameras back to the Logi app, I was able to enable "Recording" on both cameras, then proceed with the beta upgrade a second time. Both cameras now detect motion & record as designed.
I will add -- this whole thing took about 48 hours -- I had to wait for the downgrade to complete -- then wait another 24 hours before I could upgrade to the beta for a second time (perhaps I was still on the downgrade list? it kept failing with a generic error) but regardless everything works great now
Thanks all

No streaming problems away from home with the circle camera.
I also have two Omna homekit cameras. Plus an 8 camera OOSSXX NVR wireless system. My internet is U-verse. I’m on the fastest internet I can get here unless I switch to comcast cable internet. It’s 18 Mbps download but only 1.5 megs upload. as I also have Directv my data is unlimited as AT&T bought Directv. Even though the upload speed is only 1.5 megs everything streams well.

For me it’s been working since I upgraded the firmware the day it came out.
It did throw a lot of notifications and it also didn’t categorize it right the first day or two. After rebooting the camera and the home hub it started working perfectly. Streaming and recording and viewing recordings from home and away!
I think the home hub is essential in this and people need to read up on what they implement. I see a lot of complaining here too about stuff which is required. So if you want HomeKit: look up what it needs. Same for any other system you’d like to use. As far as the home hub goes it does the processing and analyzing of the recorded video data (determining if it’s people, animals or vehicles) and then sending it up to iCloud for storage.
If recording doesn’t work it could also be the network connection: unstable, too slow, etc. Since I’ve been using the circle it produced 225Gb (!!!) which has been sent out to, previously, Logi and, now, Apple. And this is since October 6th 2019.
It’s still weird that some of you check all the requirement boxes and it still doesn’t work. I think going 5Ghz is best for this product because of the amount of data it sends out.

Fernando: Haven't seen this one before. My Spanish is rusty, but what happens if you click on that black box? Does it open the camera view? If so, that looks like the snapshots aren't working. Try these one at a time and see if it works:
1. Reboot the camera.
2. Reboot your phone, ipad, Home Hub device (Apple TV, HomePod, iPad)
3. Remove from Home App, reset the camera, and re-add back to Home App

My Circle 2 I set up last night for HomeKit Secure video worked for a about a few hours before going offline. When I unplug it from power and plugged it back in, it is stuck at a solid yellow light even after leaving it for a few hours. I tried doing a reset by holding down the reset button until it alternated purple and green but as soon as i let go the led light turns off. Oddly enough if i press the reset button i get a purple light but as soon as I let go the light goes out. If i unplug power and replug it back in it goes back to being stuck at a solid yellow light.

@Logi_Aron thank You for answering, If I click on the box just highlights in white but nothing more. I already reboot my iPhone, the Apple TVs and HomePods just unplugged and plugged them back, If it counts as rebooting I did already and still nothing.
If it is advisable to do the 3rd step how do I reboot the cam and can I re-add it without the Logi App??? -
Hello,
I switched to the beta version of the firmware to enable HomeKit Video Secure. But since the motion sensor doesn’t work at all in. No clip recorded, no notification send.
"Status Active"=="No" and "Motion Detected"=="No". I am able to view a live video feed on my iphone.
I rebooted my IPhone, my router. Deleted the camera in Home and added again. Nothing works. In home the state doesn’t change.
i bought the camera this morning. Brand new.
Any idea ? Thank you.
