MX Keys volume keys stick
AnsweredHello all,
I recently purchased an MX Keys keyboard (approximately two weeks ago). I absolutely love the keyboard, but am having an intermittent issue with the volume keys. Occasionally the volume down or volume up key will endlessly repeat even after I release the key. The key itself is not physically stuck, I can feel the key release when I lift my finger, but my computer reacts as though I'm still holding down the key.
The only way for me to stop it is to power off/on the keyboard which allows the keyboard (volume keys included) to function normally until the next time this occurs. This problem occurs maybe 5% - 10% of the time I use the volume keys. It does not happen with any of the other keys on the keyboard.
I have checked to make sure I'm running the latest software/firmware.
Is it possible that it is the unifying receiver and not the keyboard? Any recommendations for what I should try?
*********************************************************************************************
Update: I tried using another Unifying Receiver, but the problem still kept recurring, so I tried connecting my keyboard via Bluetooth, and this seems to have resolved the problem for me. I would prefer to use the receiver over Bluetooth, but it's not a deal-breaker for me. Other than this slight hiccup, I absolutely love this keyboard.

I got the keyboard exchanged and the new one does exactly the same.

The reason why the keyboard doesn´t have this problem with Bluetooth is that it doesn´t disconnect/sleep in Bluetooth mode, like it does after 5 minutes in "unifying mode".
So if you still have that problem with Bluetooth, there may be an issue with emi or power saving settings of your Computer/Bluetooth adapter.
You may observe the Options or Unifying App, to see if the keyboard disconnects regularly or randomly.
And you should wait two seconds after turning the keyboard on or using the Easy-Switch keys.

I can confirm that removing the Logitech Options software resolves the issue - it has now been uninstalled for solid a week now with no issues on volume adjustments. Yippee, who would have thought?...
I no longer volume adjust "in concern" that I will go deaf and that waking up my neighborhood is a high probability.
Props to Tim Neumann for the suggestion, worked a treat mate.
I opened a support ticket back in December, and it took only two and a half months to get a complete refund (not that I was after one - but it was offered), I was also offered alternative product replacements that I refused politely to - I feel like this is their best made keyboard to date.
I now own a completely working MX Keys keyboard for free, thanks to a software bug, which I actually wish never existed in the first place to be perfectly honest.
Dear Logitech - a software fix should correct the issue for all your beloved MX Keys customers :)

Exactly the same problem that occurs on Craft Advanced Keyboards, as highlighted from many customers in his 2 years old topic and still no resolution and no answer from Logitech.

I bought 2 of these keyboards a couple of weeks ago. I have the same issue on both computers. Switching to Bluetooth is not an option as it is slow to communicate back and forth and I have to stop typing.
It is amazing that Logitech has not addressed this issue. It looks like I need to take both keyboards back and go with Microsoft.
I am going to uninstall the Logitech options and see how the keyboard and mouse operate before I go for a return.

I landed on this page with the same issue as you guys are having, my device is a brand new Logitech MX Keys which I just opened 10 hours ago and to my excitement I used it today and as I changed volume it gets stuck to MAX, first I thought it was just a glitch on my Windows 10 as I have newly updated to build #2004 so I did a restart.
Then I tried once more, doing the lowering the volume and it happened again, now I know this isn't Windows anymore as I have been manually changing the volume via mouse and its trying to change it (I can see the volume is changing) but the volume keeps going down. Then I switched off my keyboard and immediately I noticed the volume is no longer stuck and I can change it freely through Windows volume manager.
Next thing I tried was to enable "FN" for function keys as a default instead of the mapped shortcuts, from there the volume stuck seemed to be fixed as its stepping through each volume levels instead of jumping MAX/MIN but I am not sure if this really resolves the issue or I just found a way to workaround this issue?
However I am not happy with this experience as for a very expensive and premium device, this should be flowless.
I don't want to jump into a new set of different brand as I have been enjoying Logitech ecosystem now.
I know this is just a driver issue, @Logitech please look into this matter you have the resources and the time. -
TL:DR: Uninstalling Logitech Options has worked to resolve the sticky volume keys issue. It has worked for me for many months now albeit without the expanded functionality that came with said software.
I had the "this below article has helped our customer's to resolve their issue" from tech support.
After I tried every avenue suggested in said article, I replied to them that none of them worked and I still had the issue. They requested my product information (serial #, location of purchase, etc.) multiple times (?!) and assured me they were working on a solution. Then silence. Then an automated message stating that THEY were waiting to hear from me. I would respond and maybe get an acknowledgement simply stating that my "case had been updated", but still get the automated message saying they were waiting on me. Then I got a Customer Satisfaction Survey because "our records indicate that your issue has been resolved." I completed such survey saying that my issue had not been resolved and explained - in greater detail than I will here - the terrible customer experience I have had with support. Radio silence on all channels. Very disappointing.

Jason Zenowski, that is exactly how Logitech customer service works. I have had issues with MX Keys and Master 3 mouse. Each time they would send out generic emails which did not relate to the specific fault, then not answer my emails, then send an email after a few weeks pretending they were waiting to hear from me, but still ignore all subsequent emails from me.
There is no 'customer service' at Logitech. A dreadful company. They have lost future custom from me.

Same issue appears with the recent firmware. What can you do is to unplug and plug back the usb receiver.
Logitech Keys is such a buggy product and customer service and technical support doesn't seem to exist. Volume issue not resolved. FLOW issue not resolved either.
I wish I haven't bought it and I will tell anyone considering buying any Logitech product not to.

Same issue here. Volume keys get stuck and they either go to 100% or 0%, and no amount of key smashing seems to fix it. It behaves like a ghost is holding down the key and won't let go. It does not occur with any other key, just volume.
I found if I switch to device #2 (bluetooth) and switch back to #1, some amount of panic'd key smashing does in fact fix it.
Logitech, please at least acknowledge this problem, this is really bad.

judging by reddit this is an issue for all users... will logitech come up with a solution? it appears to be caused by the options software!

I am having the same problem, sometimes when I push the volume down button it get stuck, not mechanically but it keeps sending the message to the PC or so.
I have made a Poll, maybe if everyone can fill this in, we can hand it over to Logitech?
I also made a video of the problem.

Failed mission statement with this "premium product" I'd say. I hope someone is going to make a youtube video about this, otherwise we can expect nothing to happen exept polite responses to further keep in contact and give feedback and blablablah. Not only do I have the same problems with the volume keys of this keyboard but also with my G533 Headset which keeps deactivating the mic without notice and a "PRO" Gaming keyboard which sometimes randomly colours single keys... Tired of it.

I have the MX Keys with the sticking volume keys, a MX Master 3 mouse with a scroll wheel that will not scroll for the first 4 or 5 turns, bluetooth speakers which randomly turn off every hour or so (Logitech insist this is a built in feature to put the speakers to sleep if sound is not detected but which actually means that no quiet music can be played or the volume down low without the speakers turning off. Loud music or the volume turned up high is the only way to wake the speakers up again. Why a company would put this "feature" into speakers is beyond me). No support from Logitech on any of the problems or even an admission that a problem exists. With all the faults their gear is vastly overpriced.

Apparently Logitech hasn't resolved the issue - I just recently bought my MX keyboard and have the same exact problem. I prefer not to use Bluetooth (not as reliable), but if uninstalling the Logitech software fixes it, so be it. My stuck-volume problem occurs 100% of the time if I keep my finger on the key more than half a second, up or down. I see some of these comments have been on here over a year, which tells me if they haven't put out a fix for it yet, they're not going to.

Two weeks ago I also logged this issue and specifically requested to provide the proper information to the developers so it wouldn't just be stuck with the support staff. The reply I got:
"I would like to inform you that the feedback is sent to the developers. However, we are expecting it to be fixed in our next software update."
Fingers crossed they actually fix it this time. Unfortunately they could not provide a time window for the next update. -
I do not want to sound defeatist, but I can say with some confidence that Logitech will not fix this issue.
I have the same problem in addition to scrolling issues on the MX Master 3 mouse and Logitech have made no attempt to fix any of the issues or even to fully admit that any issues exist at all.
Same thing with ongoing issues with bluetooth speakers I have.
I am voting with my feet and will never purchase another Logitech product.
