C920 Pros HD Webcam
AnsweredMy webcam came with no software and minimal instructions. Besides Logitech Capture, what other software should I have for the device?

Juergen. I'm sorry to hear that you have had no success. I share your frustration. One of the reasons I selected Logitech as a brand for the camera was because of its previous reputation with hardware. For me that reputation has slid down the rankings and will influence my future purchasing decisions. LOGITECH - WAKE UP!.
I had to launch the application (in my case Zoom) first. Then I launched the LWS 2.8. The camera should be showing in the hosting software first. In my case if I launch LWS first it grabs the camera which then does not appear in Zoom. If you launch LWS2.8 by itself it does show the camera but the controls have no effect.within the lws app itself.I think there was a chnage in Windows 10 recently which means that the previous Logitech drivers (which I presume came with the camera) are no longer used and only native Windows versions are installed when you first plug the camera in. Logitech software is not up to the job. It surely is not not beyond the wit of man to simply provide a WORKING camera control system.

As I have already mentioned, if you are using LWS, you need to select the driver manually like this:-
First plug in the camera. Then open Device Manager.
Right click 'Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920'.
Select 'Update driver'.
Don't use the default 'Search Automatically for updated driver software'
Instead, select 'Browse my computer for driver software'.
Then select 'Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer'.
If you have installed LWS280.exe then you should see 'Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920' as an option.
Select it.
This works for me running Windows 10 1903.
If this doesn't work for you then I can only think that you have a later version of the C920 hardware (e.g. a C920s).

I got an answer from Logitech... useless
"Try do change the USB-ports, be sure to use a black one, try another Computer, try a different operating system, try to update the drivers in the device manager" and so on... nothing helped the zoom to work
I also did as written above: update the driver manually by selecting the C920 (I've got 20 pieces of C920 and about a dozen of new laptops Lenovo E15 and L15 with amd ryzen processor an intel core i3 to try, Desktop-PCs P756 from Fujitsu and much more) but after installing the new driver (it seemed so) and reboting the system, the drivers specification in the device manager was exactly the same (Version 1.3.92.0 from 2019-05-07).
Unfortunately I've got no Computer with Win10, older than Windows 10 build 1909 or 2004.
I tested on Win 10 with pro and home version, both 64 bit
The LWS 2.80 has still with no function to zoom. So has the LogiCameraSettings.
I didn't get information from Logitech about downgrading the firmware or how to do this (by a program ?)
I will write once more to the support, trying to explain that they didn't even rudimentary answer my question where I can get older firmware and how to install it. I'm sure they know that the firmware of the cam has mistakes.
Sorry to repeat: I'm sure the C920 itself is the problem. If you have a system that works fine and simply change the version of them Cam and then the zoom is out of order.... so what else should be the reason if not the hardware itself ?
I will report what Logitech tells me...

I HAVE changed the windows drivers under the HD Pro Webcam C290 (it only becomes vailable AFTER you install LWS2.8) to Logitech version 1.2.92.0.
Yes, I do get camera control when I use Zoom, though I have to start Zoom, then start LWS2.8 before zoom and pan functions become available.
Running LWS2.8 by itself does NOT provide these functions.
When you buy a product you expect for there to be at least SOME proper guidance as to which software to use, HOW to configure the product OR expect the product to perfrom from the et-go when it is plugged in.
Can I suggest that you update your windows to the latest build and THEN test it yourselves. -

That's interesting because the driver I have after installing using LWS280.exe is reported as having a different version and date. Mine is dated 2012 (which is about when I originally bought the camera).
A Google search for 'logitech C920 13.80.853.0' indicates this driver was originally for Windows 8.
However it does work on Windows 10 (at least it does for v1903).
You could try downloading it:-
My C920 reports the following properties for the firmware and USB IDs:-
What is the 'USB Product ID' for your C920?
If it's different to the one I have then the system may decide it's not compatible with the LSW280 driver and use the default drivers built into the OS instead.
I suspect that may be what's happening in your case.
This is discussed in the link I mentioned earlier:-
-
The device driver I have for the Camera (under Sound, video and game controllers) shows as being by Mircosoft from 7/7/2020 driver version 10.0.19401.388.
Today I was told to install Capture to get things working. This has made no difference. Utterly useless guidance from all quarters from within Logitech. I bought the camera as it is supposed to work with Zoom and Skype amongst other apps.
Yes, the camera fiunctions as a basic camera when first plugged and fired up with Zoom.- but no control software for pan, zoom etc..
-
So the USB ID and the firmware versions are the same. That's encouraging. It should be possible to make it work.
The only thing that looks significantly different is the driver version.
If you are unable to select the 13.80.853.0 driver after installing lws280.exe, I would try downloading it from drivers24.org using the link I gave earlier.
BTW, rather than use a camera, if you want to take a snapshot of part of the display, the easiest way is to press the Windows key + Shift + S. Then you can use the mouse to copy an area of the screen to the clipboard and paste it into the forum window.

some more...
A friend bought a new 310C, used on Win10. The Cam completely doesn't work. Absolutely no function.
I have an older 310C myself on a Win 10 pro, build 20H2, works fine, even zoom and pan.
My neighbour bought a 920C, delivered tody, and - I didn't expect anything else - no zoom
Logitech, you sell rubbish... sorry....
I wrote to the support that either Windows with his Updates is the problem or Logitech didn't do his homework to develope a driver that works. I'm fed up.
btw: I also tried the driver from drivers24.org. My Windows said: The driver is still installed...
I tried the LogiCamsettings, the LWS2.80, the G-Hub and now I try the taste of a german beer, called "Kölsch"
That works fine. Cheers
have an nice time...

I am giving up on this. I don't have hours to spend trying to get the software issue straightened out. My webcam is a recent purchase from opXllc (via Amazon). I will return it to them. Their rep at https://www.opxllc.com/contact-us was immediately helpful about how to do this.

Th eonly thing I have found that enables me to use the Pan and Zoom function in Zoom is to do the following:
Launch Zoom.
Select webcam for video input and audio.
NOW launch LWS2.8. As Zoom has ownership of the camera LWS cannot access the video directly itself. Click on the Quick Capture in LWS and wait a wee while. Finally you will see the Controls button - click on this. They will now work inside zoom. It should be notedF that this does NOT work with Capture. It shoudl also be noted that using LWS2.8 by itself also does NOT work.
For something that should be plug and play in this day and age, to have what could be a good camera totally disabled by a complete lack of advice, correct software or support is beyond a joke.
