I'm also seeing the same (or very similar) issue.  If I click the notification that someone rang the doorbell, I can't connect to the doorbell video feed.  My appleTV shows the doorbell video on it, so the camera is on and working at that point.  If I go back in later I can view the recorded video from that time, and I can always open the home app to view live video.  The only difference from OP's description is that I usually don't even get the error that someone else is viewing the video, I just see it trying to connect forever.

Am getting the same problem. The moment the doorbell is pressed by a visitor the cam is being ‘viewed by someone else’ and I can’t interact with the person. Makes it pretty useless as a video doorbell. Otherwise cam works fine and it even records the person ringing the doorbell, I just can’t see them live or interact with them.

After 20-30 seconds live feed is back but visitor is gone by then.

To try and address the issue I have ; reset the doorbell, restarted phones, removed other people from the home app (so it’s just me on the app - no other people can be watching the video) and turned off recording. None of these actions has fixed the problem and so now I’m left with a video doorbell that isn’t a video doorbell, its a live feed cam and audio doorbell.

Setup is wired through the connector kit and a wired mechanical doorbell.

A possibly useful update : I turned off doorbell notifications on my Apple TV and the problem stopped. I’ve since restarted those notifications and so far still no issues. So, if you are experiencing the issue, try turning off Apple TV notifications for a while and you might be back in business.
