Circle 2 Camera set up help

I am borrowing a friend's circle 2 camera for a few months to video and monitor a litter of puppies but I can't set it up - I am sure I am doing something stupid but the camera wont sync to the Circle app.  When I sign in it say No Camera, so I click on Add camera; choose the correct product but when it says searching for camera - I get Turn Circleon and wait for LED to flash blue and other messages.  I follow the check list but still nothing.
