It is possible that the network traffic sent to a powerline device could be blocked or changed by a software firewall or content filter. For example, the "Network Thread Protection" module in Symantec EndPoint Protection software blocks this type of network traffic by default. To allow it, the EtherType "0x88e1" and "0x887B" need to be whitelisted (see your firewall's support guide for instructions).
If Logitech powerline network traffic is blocked by your firewall, you may see symptoms such as:
- Not being notified of a HomePlug firmware update.
- Diagnostics failing to report on any HomePlug related properties (the section is blank).
- Errors when attempting to change the security key.
- Inability to successfully run the Powerline Strength test, or the Powerline strength test gives you the "No powerline device detected" message.
