That combined with the unique fitting process and shape of our tips, means there are several variables that make the difference between a great fit and and a bad fit. Let's begin by trying on your UE FITS, with your unmolded tips on. Move them around in your ears paying attention to what areas feel the most comfortable, and where your ears pressure points may be. Our ears are more sensitive than many realize, with the difference between comfort and discomfort, can be incredibly small. Taking some time before you begin molding to move your tips around in your ear, and really pay attention to how they feel at different angles will help you in getting a great fit. If your near a mirror, we recommend doing this part in the mirror, so you can see where they are sitting in your ears as you move them around. Comfort is just on part of the equation, seal is also key in a good fit.

A good seal doesn't just block out outside noise, it also has a huge impact on audio quality. That is why the sound test may just be the most important stage in getting you to your perfect fit. This step is designed to help you find the position in your ear to hold your tips during the molding process. Move the tips around, paying close attention to the bass. The first thing you loose when you don't have a good seal is your bass line, so this is going to be your best indication on whether you are holding it in an optimal spot.

The next variable is an easy one, but one that can be easily missed. When molding it is important that your jaw is relaxed and not moving. Your jaws position effects the shape of your ear canals, as your ears and throat are connected. A relaxed jaw will make sure your canals are in a relaxed state, providing a better fit.

Pro Tip: If you are congested your ear canals, like your nasal cavity, will become inflamed. Waiting until your congestion clears up will ensure that you get a better long term seal with your tips.

Things to Think About

A loose tip can mean that they are too small, but can also be an indication that they are too big. This is how you can tell the difference. A tip that is to large can feel loose because the tip is stretching your ear. Your ear will then push the tip out as it tries to go back to it's natural shape. The faster the tip pushes itself out of your the more it's stretching your ear.

Another thing to look for in whether the tip is the wrong size for your ear is how it sit in your ear. Sometimes it can feel like it's uncomfortable because it's to big, for your ear, but the tip may actually be too small. Take a look at your earphones in the mirror, while they are in your ear. Is the tip filling up your entire ear, or is it mostly in bottom of your ear? Is the plastic potion of your earbud partially covered by your ear canal? If yes, than the tip is probably to small for you, causing you to need you to push it further than intended into your ear.
