Clean boot in Windows 7 and Vista
To perform a clean boot in Windows 7 or Vista:

Click Start and type msconfig in the search box.

Press Enter.

On the General tab, click Selective startup.

Clear the Load startup items check box.
-
Click the Services tab.
-
Select the Hide all Microsoft services check box (at the bottom).
-
Click Disable all.
-
Click OK.
-
Click Restart.
After completing your troubleshooting, restore your system by doing the following:
-
Click Start and type msconfig in the search box.
-
Press Enter.
-
On the General tab, select Normal startup.
-
Click OK.
-
Click Yes when asked to restart your computer.
Clean boot in Windows XP
To perform a clean boot in Windows XP:
-
Click Start > Run, type msconfig and then click OK.
-
On the General tab, choose Selective Startup.
-
Clear the following check boxes:
-
Process SYSTEM.INI file
-
Process WIN.INI file
-
Load Startup items
-
-
Click the Services tab.
-
Select the Hide All Microsoft services check box (at the bottom).
-
Click Disable all.
-
Click OK.
-
Click Restart.
After completing your troubleshooting, restore your system by doing the following:

Click Start > Run, type msconfig and then click OK.

On the General tab, select Normal Startup.
-
Click OK.
-
Click YES when asked to restart your computer.
