You can add devices that are not found in the Harmony database. My Harmony will try to match your device, or will allow you to teach commands from your original remote.
To add a device not found in our database
If you attempt to add a device that doesn’t match an entry in our database, you’ll see a confirmation message similar to the one below when you try to add the device.
If the model number you entered is similar to other entries in our database, you’ll have the option to choose from a list of devices.
- Confirm that the model number shown matches the exact model number of your device. For more information about finding model number information, see Knowledge Base article 360023229654.
- If the model number you entered doesn’t match your device, select the correct one from the list or click Let me re-enter it, and then click OK. If you are certain you entered the correct model information, select Yes, that’s it and click OK to continue. You are asked to provide additional information about the device you’d like to add – additional information we’ll need to know about your device to allow your Harmony remote to control the device correctly.
- Select the type of device you’re adding from the drop-down menu (for example, TV or Display, Cable Box or Satellite Box, DVD, Blu-ray or VCR, etc.). Depending what you selected from the drop-down, the page may prompt you for additional information about the device you want to add. This information will help us find a match in our database.
- Select the items that describe your device and then click Next to continue. The following page appears, prompting you to verify you have your original remote control for this device available.
- If you have the original remote control, click Next. If you don’t have your original remote control, select No, I don’t have it, click Next and add the device later when you have your original remote.
NOTE: You can add the device even without the original remote, however, it will likely not work properly. You would then need to Change/Fix buttons.
NOTE: If you do not have your Harmony remote connected to your computer, you are prompted to connect it using the USB cable.
- Once it is connected, you’ll see instructions for positioning your Harmony remote and original remote.
- Follow the online instructions, pressing the requested command button on your original remote. If the Harmony remote recognizes the command, you will see “Command Received” message on the remote screen as the new command is taught to the Harmony remote.
NOTE: if you have problems teaching, see Knowledge Base article 360023229654.
- Continue teaching buttons as indicated on the screen.
- If we cannot find a match for your device based on the commands you taught in the preceding steps, you will be asked a series of questions relevant to the device you are adding. Answer the questions and click Next.
- If you are prompted to teach more commands, follow the online instructions, pressing the requested command button on your original remote. If the Harmony remote recognizes the command, you will see “Command Received” message on the remote screen as the new command is taught to the Harmony remote.
- Once all commands have been successfully recognized, the Finish button will appear.
- Click Finish. Your new device appears on the Device page.
- When you are finished adding devices, click Sync, Sync Now to update your Harmony remote with your new settings.
NOTE: If you do not have your Harmony remote connected to your computer, you are prompted to connect it using the USB cable.
- A page appears showing the progress as your Harmony remote is updated with your device information.
The sync process could take a few minutes as your Harmony remote is updated with your account information. During the update, do not unplug your Harmony remote unless prompted to do so.
